Do the names Cordelia and Anastasia go together?

I have one little girl called Cordelia and we are expecting her sister soon. I was wondering if everybody thought the name Anastasia would be nice for her sister.

They sound very regal together! Like you're announcing a pair of duchesses at a ballGrin

Bonsoir · 22/07/2014 16:20

Cordelia is beautiful but Anastasia is a bit of a mouthful. Arianna? Natasha?

Sophronia · 22/07/2014 16:47

I think they sound very princessy together.

Gingerjv · 22/07/2014 16:52

Sounds like two princesses;-) very beautiful names and go together perfectly

Rhubarbgarden · 22/07/2014 19:30

Anastasia is a bit much. Unless you are Russian.

ShovettyMcShovetty · 22/07/2014 19:34

I love Anastasia. Goes fine with Cordelia.

MrsLettuce · 22/07/2014 19:36

Araminta?

NadiaWadia · 22/07/2014 23:53

Anastasia is lovely.

maggiethemagpie · 23/07/2014 07:51

Anoushka if you like the Russian connection? Less of a mouthful than Anastasia.

Or could be Anastasia nn Ana?

Beautifullymixed · 23/07/2014 13:50

Anastasia is one of my all time favourite names.
I would never shorten it and would enjoy calling it.
I have an Anastasia in my class in September-I hope she doesn't spoil the name for me.
I shall enjoy calling her neverless.....

ChickenMe · 23/07/2014 19:00

They are both lovely names.

I love Russian names.

Xmasbaby11 · 23/07/2014 19:41

No. Too much - sounds very flowery and ott.

florascotia · 23/07/2014 20:14

Both very pretty. They are both uncommon and noticeably come from different cultural origins, but this may not be an issue for you.

Cordelia is probably Celtic in remote origin, re-worked by Shakespeare.
Anastasia is from the Eastern Orthodox Christian tradition, especially Greece and Russia. In most countries, it's pronounced 'A-nah-STAH-see-ah'.

Isabella220 · 23/07/2014 22:51

florascotia Thank you that is very interesting :)

Why do they have to 'go together' this is something on MN that I never understand surely u just choose names u like they don't have to 'match '

rhetorician · 23/07/2014 22:59

i have an Anastasia; I actually really love it - and she was quite a cool saint/martyr. It was a long neglected family name, but here it's usually pronounced 'Ana-Stay-see-ah'. Girl is very flowery xmas so kind of suits her

HillyHolbrook · 24/07/2014 00:23

Dfg I get that in most circumstances but some names just don't 'go' or accidentally sound weird together. I mentioned on another thread that my friend had twins and called them Sam and Ella. Both names are fine on their own but whenever we talk about them I hear 'Salmonella' Hmm

squoosh · 24/07/2014 00:28

Frill-tastic.

NadiaWadia · 24/07/2014 01:52

Don't see why these names are any more of a 'mouthful' than say, Isabella, which is so popular just now. It's the same number of syllables! Objections are a bit daft, IMO.

NadiaWadia · 24/07/2014 02:49

They are both established names, with history and very nice - and no longer than Elizabeth, for example. What I would call a 'frilly' name would be perhaps 'Annabelle' spelled like that, or something with a hyphen and 'Rose' or 'May/Mae' on the end.

NadiaWadia · 24/07/2014 02:50

I might be biased though ......

nooka · 24/07/2014 03:28

I don't think of either as frilly/flowery, but then I know two non frilly/flowery sisters with those names which I think are both lovely (as are they). They have another sister who also has a similar style of name, also lovely.
