Iona Joanne- any thoughts?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can share their opinions to give DH and I some food for thought please?

DC1 is due in Nov, we have chosen not to find out whether it is a boy or a girl. One of the few girls names we can agree on as an option is Iona. I am Scottish and my Grandfather spent a lot of time on Iona and Mull as a child so Iona is close to the heart as well as loving the name.

But we want to use Joanne as a middle name after our Mums, Anne and Joan. We can't decide if Iona Joanne works or if it is too o and a heavy. What do you think?

Thanks!

But, DH has just got home and Iona Jane has got a thumbs up, I think we have an Iona combination that may work :). Thank you!! Grin

I feel stupidly proud Grin now may I suggest Hatty as a third middle name?

Viviennemary · 17/07/2014 19:54

Both names are nice but they just don't go together very well IMHO.

Viviennemary · 17/07/2014 19:55

Just seen your new post. Iona Jane works much better.

Bowlersarm · 17/07/2014 19:57

The OP could combine our names to add, Hatty, for helping her out so well, (well you really) - Howler Grin

Yes to Iona Jane! Lovely! Iona is a magical place and Mull is a wonderfully scenic island.

Or Batty Bowlers Grin

Hatty, you may be glad to hear that DD2, should DC1 and DC2 be girls, is already named as Harriet Sarah/Sally with Hattie for short Smile.

Bowler, I shall work on combining Bowler in too!

Iona Jane is an inspired idea :)

DramaAlpaca · 17/07/2014 20:45

Love, love, love Iona Jane Smile

We seriously considered Iona for a DD as I visited the isle when I was pregnant, but the bump turned out to be a DS.

squoosh · 18/07/2014 15:47

I prefer Jane or Joanne to Iona.

Trooperslane · 18/07/2014 15:57

My dd has a middle name in honour of her 2 dgms.

It doesn't really match well but we don't care since they had the same name, were both totally delighted, and my DM has since died. Confused

She wouldn't have had a middle name otherwise.

Topsyloulou · 18/07/2014 20:49

Iona Jane is our girls name if we have. Iona came to me in a dream one night & it's stuck since then & Jane after DP's mum. We're having a boy so it's in the bank for next time hopefully!

Saltedcaramel2014 · 18/07/2014 20:58

Iona is beautiful. The two together is too much on the vowel front though, in my opinion, and some of the subtlety of ions gets lost

Mumzy · 18/07/2014 21:04

Use the names you love seriously how often is she going to get called Iona Joanne. It'll be Iona and I do think its important second names have some sort of people who are important to you.

janie2 · 18/07/2014 21:20

Dc2 would have been Iona Jane but was a boy Smile

However, we so rarely say all names together I'm not sure id worry too much I think Iona Joanne is fine esp as you have great reasons for using joanne!

ralinax294 · 20/07/2014 20:59

I absolutely love Iona. Iona Joanne and Iona Caroline Anne are both nice but I prefer Iona Caroline Anne.

funnyoldonion · 20/07/2014 21:23

Reminds me if Indianna Jones for some reason. Like the suggestions of Jane also think Iona is a lovely name x
