Just that really
Most names I can think of don't seem to really fit with the surname Fletcher so I thought I'd ask mumsnet! Boys and girls names please

Dexter.

guineapig2014 · 15/07/2014 18:26

butterflyoffreedom I quite like names ending with an 'a' or 'ah' so Amelia, Eliza, Jemimah etc. So most names I like don't seem to sound wright -Amelia fletcher doesn't quite go. But I do agree, it is quite an easy surname compared to some!!

Not Dexter Wink

Old family friends of my DM are
Stan/Stanley
Audrey

I think the reason that names like Amelia don't sound quite right is because the 'ah' ending is too/quite similar to the 'er' at the end of your surname. In comparison Stan has a hard ending and Stanley and Audrey share an 'ee' ending. You need to find names with endings that contrast with your surname's ending.

Having said that, I don't think Amelia Fletcher is unusable if you really love it. There are many far worse names out there.

Heebiejeebie · 16/07/2014 07:08

Jessica has stood the test of time.

manicinsomniac · 16/07/2014 10:29

Most names I think. I think 3 syllables goes quite well but nothing wrong with 2 or 4 either. I would avoid F or Ph names. If you like 'a' endings how about:

Alicia, Alexa, Alyssa, Annabella, Arabella, Aurelia, Bella, Ciara, Cassia, Clarissa, Cordelia, Dana, Daniella, Dakota, Elsa, Erica, Esther, Eleanor, Eva, Georgia, Georgina, Gabriella, Hannah, Isabella, Isla, India, Iona, Jessica, Joanna, Julia, Karina, Laura, Liliana, Layla, Lyla, Lyra, Leah, Louisa, Maria, Michaela, Melissa, Marissa, Miranda, Matilda, Mariana, Natalia, Natasha, Nina, Nadia, Olivia, Ophelia, Pandora, Paloma, Rebecca, Rhianna, Rosa, Sara, Samantha, Sophia, Savannah, Sienna, Sierra, Serena, Sabrina, Saskia, Susannah, Tabitha, Tallulah, Victoria, Vanessa, Xenia, Zara.

I know an Amy Fletcher. Goes quite well I think, but surely most names go with that surname? I'd just stay away from names starting with an F sound.

SillyTillyTilly · 16/07/2014 14:05

Arf at Dexter! Grin

Two syllables always sound good with Fletcher (one branch of my family are Fletchers). I won't list 'em

BlueChampagne · 16/07/2014 14:38

Arianne
Monica
Marion/Marianne
Meredith

Conrad
Lewis
Jonathan
Adam

singersgirl · 16/07/2014 16:08

I would think it would be easier to think of names that don't go with Fletcher.

I'm not a fan of alliteration (eg Finley Fletcher, Florence Fletcher) or too much assonance (eg Sorcha Fletcher) or things that almost rhyme (eg Etta or Greta Fletcher) but you might like all of those things.

Dumpylump · 16/07/2014 16:11

Norman Stanley.......... Grin

ChunkyPickle · 16/07/2014 16:15

You could name him for Mr. Tumble: Justin!

guineapig2014 · 16/07/2014 16:26

Thanks guys for all your help!!! I do think that Amelia Fletcher could be possible but it is not ideal with the 'a' and 'er' Grin
I think there are enough boys that go well but not so many girls!
Here is a list of some girls names that might go well - please let me what u think!!
For the names with abbreviations next to them most people would use the nickname

  • Olivia Fletcher (liv/Livy)
  • Lucy Fletcher
  • Susannah Fletcher
  • Amelia Fletcher (Millie)
  • Lara fletcher (????)
  • Matilda fletcher ( I don't really like this one but Tilly fletcher sounds nice!!)
  • Zoe fletcher
  • Katie fletcher
  • Arabella fletcher (bit of a mouthful but bella fletcher is nice)
Any others you. An think of? Thanks xxx

Do you like traditional or unusual names op?

Artus · 17/07/2014 22:02

Alice??

NinjaLeprechaun · 17/07/2014 22:16

My last name is quite similar to Fletcher, but not. Both my sister and I have names that end with an A, and I think it sounds fine. But I don't have an accent that leaves the R off the ends of words, or adds them, so that could make a difference. We have a lot of an/on/en name endings (for instance, Nathan as listed above.) But the family has names ranging from Rachel to Jose and I think they all work.

I'd say anything that doesn't start with the same letter or sound I did have an aunt named Freda, she married into the family, unfortunate or rhymes. But the same could be said of any name, I think.

guineapig2014 · 18/07/2014 08:14

Angelto5 in answers to your question, I like names such as Eliza, Jemimah, Arabella, Amelia, Susannah
But also Emma, Anna, and katie!!
