Brother for Pip and Vivi?

DH and I are talking about baby number 3 and are casually tossing around boy names. Siblings are Vivienne and Philippa.

I'm warming to the idea of using something like Robert, Timothy or Thomas, despite the boring factor, just because I quite like the idea of something solid and classic. My question is if they work with our existing names, or would something else work better? Also, are they so ubiquitous and boring that our child will be annoyed with us for our choice?

I like Timothy. Pip, Vivi and Tim.

I think a boy is more likely to be grateful for a "normal" solid. name than be upset that it wasn't more "out-there".

BlueStarsAtNight · 08/07/2014 18:24

Plus I have t met a baby Timothy before. It certainly is t common these days.

Rivercam · 08/07/2014 18:29

Good choices. Timothy is quite unusual, despite being a well known name. There's nothing wrong with good, solid names.

Alternatives

Christopher (Kit, Pip and Viv)

Douglas (Dougie)

Julian ( Jules)

Sebastian (seb)

Robert is good because it has lots of dimminutives, Timothy is good because it has fallen out of fashion and so is unusual without being out of the ordinary.
There are just so many boys called Thomas about that I think it can be a problem eg there sre 3 in my son's class.

your girls names are some of the nicest I have heard in ages.

A colleague named her baby Timothy about 6 years ago. A second colleague's teenager daughter's response was, "But no-one calls their baby Timothy anymore."

That's the only young Timothy that I am aware of, so I wouldn't worry about it being too popular. I would also not worry about what teenagers think.

I like Robert a lot and have suggested it to DH, but he vetoed on the grounds that he already has an Uncle Bob.

Thomas more popular than the others suggestions, but not crazily so where I am.

What about
Andrew
Anthony
Alistair
Simon
Peter

Matthew? Matt.

I like Robert. A nice solid name and underused for this baby generation.

baskingseals · 08/07/2014 20:12

I think I might have got it, Jeremy, nickname Jem.

Gingerjv · 08/07/2014 20:13

I like Timothy, Daniel, Joseph, Mathew, Sebastian

Bowlersarm · 08/07/2014 20:14

Good shout, baskingseals.

Fizzyplonk · 08/07/2014 21:17

Came on to say Jem/Jeremy
Or Laurie/Laurence
Or Gus/Augustus???

twinjocks · 08/07/2014 21:19

Like a PP, I immediately thought Christopher (Kit for short) - I think it goes beautifully in both long and short forms with your DDs' names.

ThedoublelifeofDollyBrown · 08/07/2014 22:46

Timothy sounds good, as does Tom

Sophronia · 08/07/2014 23:55

I like Robert.

ThedoublelifeofDollyBrown · 08/07/2014 23:58

Your talk name has just reminded me of how much I like the name Sophronia, Sophronia Grin

ViviPru · 09/07/2014 13:28

Excellent name choices OP, both v. close to my heart. As your choices are so synchronous to me, I will let you in on my #1 boys name which I feel also fits your brief, that being Rupert, nn Ru.

Iownafourinchporsche · 10/07/2014 18:50

Tristan

Superrhan · 11/07/2014 12:57

Rupert
Theo(dore)

Both would go lovely with the others!

Julygal · 11/07/2014 13:00

Wilfred, nn Wilf. I think it sounds lovely with Pip and Vivi.
