Is it the hormones or is it just a lovely name to be called? I'd not be brave enough to use it but I just think it's a gorgeous sentiment.

I've met one too and she is a carer in my uncle's nursing home and he drives her mad saying "blessing?" twenty five times a day.

SantanaLopez · 08/07/2014 13:41

'Obedience' is just asking for trouble, isn't it?!

Squoosh, that makes sense because I was thinking about how illogical it is that I find blessing unusable but I like Joy and Grace and Verity and Honor

Bange · 08/07/2014 13:42

Obedience! lol. That'd come back to bite you!

What about Disobedience? Dissy for short.

Bange · 08/07/2014 13:43

SetantaLopez, the one I met was female.

Pangaea · 08/07/2014 13:46

Chastity is a name that teenagers would enjoy rebelling against.

Oriunda · 08/07/2014 14:33

What about Benedict for a boy or Benedetta for a girl? Both mean blessing (from Latin/Italian)

ACM88 · 08/07/2014 22:13

I know a lovely lady called Honour. I don't know where she and her family were originally from so I won't assume, but I know her name was chosen because her mother felt honoured to have her. I absolutely love that sentiment. She also has a daughter called Destiny. Some of these names have filtered down and I know of a Hope and a couple of Graces.
No matter what culture/religion you may belong to, I love the idea of naming your child after something they make you feel or mean to you. If you feel brave enough, it's a beautiful thing to do!

I often visit South Africa and the names there are fabulous. In fact, I think Fabulous is a name. As is Happiness, and Pleasance, and Computer. What's not to love?

Mouldypineapple · 08/07/2014 22:18

I used to know a child called Blessing - a Nigerian girl. Only time I've met one though.
And I know a German lady called Beata.
I didn't realise so many of these names meant Blessing. If DD had been a boy she may well have been Benedict but because we liked it rather than anything deeper.
Hmm, interesting!

Grin

Quite taken by Beatrice, I have to say. I might get my Blessing after all!

Benedict is the same meaning, but more mainstrem.

SantanaLopez · 08/07/2014 22:28

Unfortunately I have a Frances already, so I think any Benedict combinations are out!

Blessing sounds like one of those Puritan virtue names

tethersend · 08/07/2014 22:36

I have taught:

Blessing
Innocent
Glory
Talent
Endurance

Pangaea · 08/07/2014 22:53

Agree with ACM!

Is why I like the name Felicity so much.

burgatroyd · 09/07/2014 09:00

My mum suggested Beata for dd2. I told her no! Are we saying we like Beata?! Confused

Rhubarbgarden · 09/07/2014 18:10

If we had to name our dcs for how we were feeling when we had them, my two would have been Shock and Awe.

ToniWol · 10/07/2014 10:45

Beata is a lovely name. It's what my Polish colleague is called. She pronounces it more Bay-ah-ta with a very distinct t sound

TheHoundsBitch · 10/07/2014 10:54

There is an 'Amazing' in DS's school, I think virtue names are lovely.
