Hi all,

I posted a few days ago looking for a B name due to family connections. It's not essential that the name begins with B but DH and I agree that if we can find one we both love we will go for it. We are still not sure about a boys name but we both really love Bryony and Briar. I also like Bronwyn/en.

Can I get some opinions on these names? Which do you like best? I had never seen Bryony spelt Briany. I liked it at first but DH has pointed out that it just makes the name look like a female version of Brian which it isn't.

Other suggestions are also welcome, doesn't have to be B but what names may I like if I like these names?

Briar then Bronwyn.

I know a Bronte?

I also like Bree but wouldn't be brave enough to use it because of the cheese thing.

WaffleWiffle · 07/07/2014 12:18

Vote for Bronwyn from me.

My DH has vetoed it, but it has been one of my favourites for while.

I also like Brogan and Bronte

BeckaH123 · 07/07/2014 17:15

Briany sounds like an adjective to me as in, "She's a bit briany". I like Bryony much better.

I like Briar too.

ApplebyMennym · 07/07/2014 17:22

Brogan is nicer.

Don't like any of the others except Briar, which makes me think of Sleeping Beauty.

D0oinMeCleanin · 07/07/2014 17:26

My Bryony is never called Brian. I do call her Bry, though, but her friends/other people never do.

She hates her name. Bryony pens are not in enough demand to be stocked in giftshops. She wants to change her name to Amy or Emily.

MummyBeerest · 07/07/2014 17:26

Bianca is lovely!

I like Bronwyn...but only with a y.

squoosh · 07/07/2014 17:55

I like Briar.

Bronwyn, Briony and all the variants are snooty head girl names. A head girl in ugly shoes.

Gingerjv · 07/07/2014 20:24

I like Bryony and Briony. Bronwyn and Briar sounds too masculine to me(

Littlestar3432 · 07/07/2014 20:32

Bronte? Underused and pretty I think x

Theonlyoneiknow · 07/07/2014 22:05

I had Bronwyn on my short list.

Other B names I like are Brogan, Brodie (unisex), Beatrix, Blair (unisex)

pinktransit · 07/07/2014 22:11

I have a Briony.
She's never been called Bri, or Brian :-)

Actually it is difficult to shorten, which I've found quite hard - I'm very much a 'use the full name when they're in trouble' mum, so having to use her full name at all times feels like I'm telling her off.

Since uni though, she's been shortened to 'B'. I'm probably one of the only people that call her Briony these days.

There is the problem of never being able to just buy her 'named' things - they have to be specially ordered. Her sister is Bethany, and when they were younger, you couldn't get anything with Beth or Bethany printed on, but now you can. :)

In an argument for Bronwyn, I know on with nn Winnie and its super cute on her as a little girl but Bronwyn strikes me as a strong woman. Will work at all ages. Lovely choide Smile

ButterflyOfFreedom · 08/07/2014 15:49

I like Bronwyn / Bronwen.

Bronte is also quite nice.

My favourite 'B' name though is Bethan.

sonlypuppyfat · 08/07/2014 15:53

I've got a Bronwyn...so there.

GreatAuntDinah · 09/07/2014 07:02

How about Bridget or Bridie?

burgatroyd · 09/07/2014 07:40

I third Bianca!

sonlypuppyfat · 09/07/2014 08:45

Wasn't Bianca a little mouse?

Superrhan · 10/07/2014 17:45

My sister (20yo) is a Bryony.

She does get called Brian/Bryon affectionately by a lot of people.

Although family still struggle with spelling it, and she still gets cards addressed to Briony.

I do, however, LOVE Briar. It reminds me of Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty) and so I think it's really girly. I think I would pair it with the middle name Rose though, as I personally think it's much prettier that way.

Blueboys · 14/07/2014 21:12

Byrony, Bryn, Briar, Blythe I like and Bryony

Blueboys · 14/07/2014 21:13

Oh and Bronte love it!

ElephantsNeverForgive · 14/07/2014 21:18

DF has the cutest Bryony on the planet so I'm biased. It was also on my list.

I sympathise with the pens issue, I never use my full name and stuck dymo tape on the broach I was given to change it to my NN.

weatherall · 14/07/2014 21:20

Of the names in the OP I like Briar the most.

Other b names I like are

Bonnie
Bronte
Bailey
Blossom
Brae
Blaire
Beauly
Beth
Brodie
Brogan
Bridie

Darquesse · 14/07/2014 21:28

I like Blair or Brogan.

Bryony is quite pretty but I think Bronwyn is quite awkward to say.

I may be mispronouncing it in my head though. Is it BrONwin?

rockybalboa · 14/07/2014 21:33

I loooooooooooove Briony. Also love Bree but accept the cheese issue.

crazylady321 · 14/07/2014 22:13

really like Bryony :)
