Kitty and Polly were the two we had to choose between.. we went for kitty but I do love Polly. My little girl is definitely a kitty :)

m0therofdragons · 27/06/2014 17:07

Oh and she's kitty not Catherine etc. Mn always annoys me on that. It's a name in its own right - has been since 16th century.

neolara · 27/06/2014 17:13

When my dd was born, I loved the name Kitty as because my dd looked like the cutest curled up kitten imaginable. So Kitty became her middle name. Now she is 4, I think what was I thinking?! She's a great hulk of a thing and doesn't look anything like a kitten. And why would I want my dd to be a cat anyway? I don't even like cats. I wish I'd called her Ingrid as per the original plan. Hormones have a lot to answer for.

So, the moral of my story is, go for Kitty if you love it, but don't be suckered into Kitty when your dd is born simply because of the cute angle.

Kitty's lovely, really cute, don't really like Polly.
However just asked my d.d and she said Polly, and that she doesn't like Kitty, sp a vote each. X

Misspilly88 · 27/06/2014 18:16

Both are lovely! I'd probs pick Polly because I know a lot of young kitty's and it doesn't have the connotation of an animal :)

Rhubarbgarden · 27/06/2014 20:32

Kitty just has the edge for me, though I like both.

DramaAlpaca · 27/06/2014 22:47

Kitty, but for me there would have to be a variant of Catherine on the BC.

Don't like Polly at all.

Castlelough · 28/06/2014 20:56

I like Kitty! One of the daughters in Pride & Prejudice was a Kitty, and if it's good enough for Jane Austen...Wink

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/06/2014 21:13

Pretty sure Kitty would have been a nickname for Katherine in Jane Austens time.

nwthree · 29/06/2014 19:42

For what it's worth, I'm a Polly and found it a hard name to live with at school. Too many Polly parrot, Polly put the kettle on, pretty Polly, Polly-want-a-cracker jibes for me to ever enjoy it. The only upside was being the only Polly at both junior and secondary school, which was nice. Over time I've got used to it, and it helps that more old fashioned names are in vogue now, but of names of the same ilk I prefer Holly or Molly.

Fedupofplaystation · 29/06/2014 20:57

My vote is for Kitty, however it's only marginally ahead. I love both names.

DH would vote for Polly, although he doesn't really like either name.

Not sure if that actually helps you at all!

newyearnewshoes · 29/06/2014 20:59

Love Kitty! Think its v glam and obviously the Pride and Prejudice connection!

BeckaH123 · 30/06/2014 11:20

I will be honest it would be Kitty on the BC, there is no way I'm am calling any child of mine Catherine, Kathleen, Catriona etc. I just really dislike those names and I'm not into the idea of something different on the BC.

Then still Kitty by a brief margin. Polly is a bit silly for me.

stinkingbishop · 30/06/2014 11:23

Both were on our list Smile.

Bowlersarm · 30/06/2014 11:24

Kitty in P & P is actually Catherine, if that matters to anyone.

Jemimapuddleduk · 30/06/2014 13:24

Kitty.
I like Polly too though.

stripedtortoise · 30/06/2014 13:34

Polly, by a long long way.

But if you insist on Kitty (which is ok) call her Katherine. I think it's very, very unfair to suggest she can 'change her name' if she doesn't like it. She deserves to have options and a 'proper' name.

squoosh · 30/06/2014 13:45

What nonsense.

Kitty is well established as a name in its own right. Lots of people have Kitty as their registered name therefore it is a 'proper' name. The OP doesn't want to put a longer name that she doesn't like on the birth cert.
