Great name. I think she sounds intelligent and spirited.

Surf25 · 24/06/2014 22:23

Love it

miffybun73 · 24/06/2014 22:24

Lovely :)

WolfMoon · 24/06/2014 22:26

Personally I'm not keen, I think it sounds (and looks) a little bit unfinished somehow.

purplemunkey · 24/06/2014 22:26

Oh good, two positives so far! I really like it as its short, sweet, easy to spell and there won't be loads of other girls in her class with the same name. Definitely one for the shortlist then :)

Love it. Know one - she's beautiful and clever, so obvs yours will be too. Also makes me think of Dorothea Brooke, of Middlemarch, one of the great heroines of literature.

mousmous · 24/06/2014 22:27

love it,
it's very popular right now, with all sorts of variants
(dorothea, tia, diya, teya) just to keep in mind.

Universal · 24/06/2014 22:28

Beautiful

ThursdayLast · 24/06/2014 22:28

wolfmoon how do you feel about Althea?
I love Thea, but I say my th's like f's so I would make it sound awful

McBear · 24/06/2014 22:29

Love the name. Only know two. One was an absolute bitch and ruined it for me Angry

WhispersOfWickedness · 24/06/2014 22:29

I love it pronounced the Scandinavian way, Taya Smile

purplemunkey · 24/06/2014 22:33

Taya is nice. I did wonder if it sounded like it should be short for something but it's seems its fine as a name in itself. Althea is a nice suggestion also.

I didn't think I liked it, but had a very vivid dream about adopting a baby and changing her name to Thea (even though I knew I didn't like it!).

And so now it makes me smile Smile

JabberJabberJay · 24/06/2014 22:36

Lovely.

But it might be more popular than you think. I know 3 little girls with the name.

DramaAlpaca · 24/06/2014 22:39

I'm going to go against the majority here & admit that I don't like it, sorry Blush.

purplemunkey · 24/06/2014 22:41

Really JabberJabberJay? I haven't met any Theas. Perhaps that's something to consider. We're not deliberately trying to be unique, I just quite fancied something not quite so classic without being too pretentious or out there!

OP posts:
purplemunkey · 24/06/2014 22:43

Fair enough DramaAlpaca, it's what this thread is for - honest opinions ;)

DramaAlpaca · 24/06/2014 22:48

Phew! Glad you're not offended.

I don't normally post on names I don't like, but as you asked for honest opinions I thought I'd go for it Wink

Love it. Would have used it myself but a) I have difficulty pronouncing the 'th' sound and b) our surname has a similar sound (think Thea Frear or similar!)
Unusual and sophisticated sounding - lovely

Fuckalella · 24/06/2014 22:54

I like it! One of DDs best friends (preschool) is a Thea.

Nereida · 24/06/2014 23:49

It's ok but I dislike 'th' names, some people might pronounce it 'fear'! Also I'm not keen on the meaning.

My friend. Anthea goes by Thea.

Rhubarbgarden · 25/06/2014 19:08

Love it. Would have been on my shortlist if dh and his entire family weren't unable to pronounce the 'th' sound.
