Hi

Which is your favourite out of the 3 ?

This is my first post on here & I'm due in 10 days with my first baby girl.

I'm really stuck on which name. Loved Nell all the way through my pregnancy but is it too short a name ? & I'm not keen on Nellie.

Betsy is cute too & Daisy seems like a nice but safe option & there are quite a few near where I live.

Please help !!

Definitely definitely Daisy cos it's the best name ever (biased).

twinjocks · 24/06/2014 22:06

Daisy (mine is now nearly 20!)

Surf25 · 24/06/2014 22:26

Nell

Nereida · 24/06/2014 23:47

Betsy but I prefer it short for Elizabeth, followed by Nell but I prefer it as a nickname for Eleanor. Daisy is nice but too cutesy and popular for me.

BikeRunSki · 24/06/2014 23:49

Nell, if you think it's too short, use Helen or Eleanor.

Ludways · 25/06/2014 00:01

I know about 6 Daisy's and don't really like it, too cutesy for me.

I like Nell best. I can't remember the other name.

Ludways · 25/06/2014 00:02

Betsy, lol. I'd expect her to be called Elizabeth rather than Betsy on the birth very

tgrayson · 25/06/2014 00:07

I love Nell!

Go with your gut, not other peoples opinions. I wish I had!

If I'm blessed with a next time I will defiantly listen to my gut. And not discuss our names. (Although I will prob share on here lol)

Even with a short name you will still call her by other pet names and/or shorten or lengthen existing name. It's just what happens

Good luck with everything

DD1 has a friend named Betsy (short for Elizabeth) -- they have been friends since they were 10. The name has aged really well. It was cute on a child and very nice in a retro way for a woman now in her mid 20s.

Nell makes me think 'knell', and Daisy is either too cutesy old ladyish or too Gatsbyesque for my taste..

Thebuttonfancier · 25/06/2014 04:59

Please don't call her Nell. As an Eleanor, I have occasionally been called this and a more inelegant drab name I cannot imagine. Sorry to those that do love it but it is a bit of a marmite name and from experience I plead with you not to saddle your daughter with it. I think it sounds on trend now but won't date well. If it were me, I'd go with Elizabeth nn Betsy as it gives loads of other adult nn potential too and is a pretty and classic name.

Biscuitsneeded · 25/06/2014 07:53

Why not Helena or Penelope, which you can shorten to Nell? Betsy is sweet but I think it will date. Daisy is a nice name but every thrid child at my kids' school is called Daisy, and often has a sister called Alice or Lily - all nice names but they always have to be Lily S or Daisy W or whatever as there are so many of them.

Allalonenow · 25/06/2014 08:06

Daisy.

Really not too keen on the other names, though I do like Elizabeth and Eleanor.

TessOfTheFurbyvilles · 25/06/2014 09:49

My younger sister is Nell, so I love the name.

I find it sophisticated and fuss-free.

Daisy and Betsy are far too cutesy for my tastes.

JessieEssex · 25/06/2014 11:40

I have a Penelope, shortened to Nell/Nelly (I know you don't like Nelly). I love Nell and think it works well for children and grown ups. I agree with tess that Daisy and Betsy are cutesy pie names (not my cup of tea)

scarletforya · 25/06/2014 11:43

Nell definitely, love it!

Choc88 · 25/06/2014 12:12

Thanks for all your replies. I think I will follow my gut & my heart & go for Nell. I've always loved it & think I will regret it if I don't use it. I've just got to stop obsessing now & find something else to think about haha. Only got a week to go now - feeling tired & ready to pop xx

Don't like Nell.

Betsy and Daisy are very cute for little girls, but i can't imagine Betsy as a 40 year old woman in a professional job. It doesn't age very well. Couldn't you go with something like Beth or Elizabeth and just use Betsy as a nickname?

DitzyDonkey · 25/06/2014 13:24

Helena Bonham Carter has a dd called Nell, if you google you can see some pics of her and may help you imagine a little Nell Smile

AMI88 · 25/06/2014 13:33

Love Nell,I wanted that name except it rhymes with my name!

Betsy I also love!

Daisy is cute for a toddler with ringlets in her hair, but it doesn't feel like an adults name to me!

lifehasafunnywayofhelpinguout · 25/06/2014 16:42

If you don't like Nellie stay away from, Nell, because she might decided she wants to be knwn as Nellie. Don't like Daisy, over used. Betsy though Iw beautiful.
Oh forgetttong my manners congratulation. Take it easy. Xx

littlejohnnydory · 26/06/2014 14:13

Nell is the name we've chosen for dc4 if a girl. It was a top contender for the others! I love the name Nell - go for it!

tryingtocatchthewind · 26/06/2014 14:24

Love Nell and I think it's fine on it's own - don't mind Betsy but not keen on Betsy.

Sidthesausage · 26/06/2014 19:07

Nell is my fave quickly followed by betsy. Daisy is much like Maisy

Benchmark · 26/06/2014 19:33

I think Nell is drab, needs to be short for something.
I love Daisy, Betsy is ok.

Choc88 · 26/06/2014 20:50

Oh gosh I'm more confused than ever :-(
Don't really want my little girl to be called Nellie but I do love Nell :-( Daisy is nice but still I think it's the safe option & not a marmite name.
Do you think there is a chance people will call her Nellie ?
