A name that goes with Hollie

HilariousInHindsight · 14/06/2014 15:53

Hello.

I am not actually pregnant but will be ttc later this year and am looking in advance to have a list of names that would go with Hollie and also just some names that are nice. I just wanted to see what others can come up with, including twin names just in case (they run in both sides of our families).

I'm not looking for anything with too weird of a spelling although a slight variation i.e. Catherine or Katherine is fine, because they are both valid names.

I named Hollie with the ie instead of Y as we loved the name but my partner has a Y surname so two Y's next to each other seemed awfully odd. Plus we wanted people to know we didn't name her for being around Christmas time as she is an April baby.

Thanks very much for your input.
Thanks

Love the name AND the spelling...and it's perfect for a warm weather born girl (can you tell I have a personal bias Grin ?

The one I know has a sibling called Zoe outs self

I also like Finlay / Finn and like Leon from your list.

Hope Captain Buzzkill's upthere's scuttled off to polish their Spelling Police shield. Rude.

GrendelsMinim · 14/06/2014 20:59

I think it's lovely to have a matching set of flower names, so these would be lovely for a little girl.

Rosie Y
Ivie Y
Lilie Y
Daisie Y
Poppie Y
Peonie Y

I have to say that Peonie would be my favourite, although Lilie is also pretty - I knew a gorgeous little girl called Peony.

It's a bit harder with a boy - Ashlie Y?

burgatroyd · 14/06/2014 22:15

WTF is wrong with people! Nothing wrong with spelling of Hollie. Starfish you're coming across like a chocolate starfish!

burgatroyd · 14/06/2014 22:22

Suzie, Josie, Avery, Minnie, Jeanie, Bibi, Bramble, Briony...

I love Peony, Grendel!

Purplecircle · 15/06/2014 01:41

Sorry I completely missed the point there Smile
I don't post much on here but aren't some people rude.
I'm not stupid, I just misunderstood what the OP meant

Mutteroo · 15/06/2014 02:16

Some names look weird when spelt differently, Hollie does not look at all strange to me, plus I have a friend with a daughter who spelt her name as Hollie. She has a sister called Abbey which again is an unusual spelling of the 'usual' name.
Also know of a Bethanie which I also think looks quite pretty.

Other options:
Aria
Billie
Rosa
Enya

Finlay/Finn - like this from your list.
Arthur
Luca/Lucian
Gabriel

burgatroyd · 15/06/2014 06:47

Does it really matter if you have to correct spelling? Lots do it with surname. Just takes a few secs 'hollie with an ie' and is irritating at most.

You might even need to do that with Ann or Anne.

What names do you like, op? Agree with poster that siblings name need not go together. Unless you are planning a pair of baby Janes.

Mumof3xox · 15/06/2014 06:50

Most of the holly/hollies I know are spelt with an ie, it's not ridiculous or uncommon

Op I knew siblings called Hollie and Hannah, also a Holly with a sister Morgan

BikeRunSki · 15/06/2014 07:03

"Sarcy" would be pronounced "sar see", the y naked the c soft.

"Sarky" is the abbreviation of "sarcastic"

Back to names....

Hollie and ..... Abbie/Abigail, Sylvie, Kate
Hollie and ..... Peter, James, Thomas

pommedeterre · 15/06/2014 08:02

I think Abbey is the more traditional spelling?!

Everyone spells our Abbie's name as Abi though.

Other names we considered to go with Holly were Laura, Faye, Lucy and Cara.

BikeRunSki · 15/06/2014 08:22

Yes, I agree pomme, but the OP explained why she didn't want names ending in "y".

pommedeterre · 15/06/2014 10:56

Oh yes, forget Lucy then!

Marcipex · 15/06/2014 16:10

Hollie and Eden
Hollie and Willow
Hollie and Fred... I love Fred

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 15/06/2014 16:15

I know an equal number of Hollies and and Hollys. To me, Hollie is as acceptable a spelling as Kathryn is of Catherine/Katherine.

What about

Amber
Jade
Kristie
Jenna
Aimee
Phoebe
Freya
Lila

Wait, Hollie isn't a weird or out there spelling is it? Confused I've always thought Hollie was a legitimate alternative spelling. Personally I prefer it spelt Holly but I wouldn't think twice if someone had spelt it Hollie. There was a Hollie in my class at primary school and I also know a Hollie who is in her 30's so I don't think it's a new 'trying to be different' thing.

There are two ways of spelling my name, both are legitimate spellings however one spelling happens to be a lot more common than the other. Typically I have the not so common spelling and it's unbelievable how many people tell me I spell my name wrong or ask if I'm sure when I tell them that's how I spell it. There would probably be some people on MN who would think that the way I spell my name was an attempt at being different or kreeativ by my parents or tell me my parents have spelt my name wrong. Even though the way I spell my name is a legitimate alternative spelling.

PinkHamster · 15/06/2014 18:49

I think Rosie or Sophie would go nice with Hollie.

HilariousInHindsight · 15/06/2014 19:41

Thank you.

Yes I have met a grown woman named Hollie too.

Keep them coming :)

My dsis is beth. And I am old with an ie spelling! Although it is more common now than when I was little.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 16/06/2014 12:32

I'd say Hollie is a perfectly recognisable alternative spelling, though most people would assume Holly.

Willow, Anna, Nina, Carys are all similar lengths to Hollie and, like that, aren't generally going to be shortened, if that appeals.

Boys: Otis, Max, Tom, Finn, Felix.

looki · 16/06/2014 14:06

I agree with the poster who said avoid another name that ends in an 'e' sound. I dislike the name Abi anyway but think Holly and Abi sound so matchy matchy.

I think it's unfair to give one sister a name like Holly and another Elizabeth. They aren't in the same vein at all. Names that might work maybe Isabel? Can't think of others. Sorry OP I'm not much help as we have different taste in names.

looki · 16/06/2014 14:07

Beth is a lovelly name!

NorksEnormous · 16/06/2014 14:56

Gosh, how rude are some people! Starfish, was there any need to be so horrible? Hollie is lovely, for a sister I would choose Sophia, Freya or Erin. For a brother I would pick Jake or Jude I think. Smile

BeckaH123 · 16/06/2014 16:06

Hi OP! Sorry people are being sarcy to you Wink

I don't really understand the "goes with" thing for siblings personally. I would just pick a name I love and that suits really. It's not like they are getting married! Smile
