We have a little girl on the way and we are struggling to come up with names! Looking for something that's not too popular, but very pretty, and preferably scottish, although not too worried about that! Help!!

I meant Innes, which was one of my Scottish grandmother's given names.

I think, BikeRun that that may have come from the Scottish tradition of using a mother or grandmother's maiden name as a (usually middle) name for girls? So although Innes is a surname, it will have been used as part of a first name in this way? All of the women in my family have surname-derived middle names. I really like it (and lots of people are now using surnames as first names in a more modern way, e.g. Mackenzie).

Maeve or Donald
Clodagh or Diarmuid
Mairead or Patrick
Andrea (not Andrew for a boy though, that's too dull) or Gregor

you said sister [embarrassed]

Agree with the PP who said that Innes is a boy's or surname. Never used for a girl in Scotland. I imagine it became a grandmother's given name from the Scottish tradition of using mothers maiden name as middle name. V common.

And they sometimes end up being used. My DF's goes by his middle name - ie his mother's (ghastly in my view) surname.

I stand corrected. I also once knew a Spanish/Scottish girl with the same sounding name, which I assumed was Scottish, but now I see it could have been Spanish Inez.

Still a nice name though.

Annabel. Not sure it's particularly Scottish but I like it. If DC2 were a girl instead of a boy this would be my choice.
