Am 35+3 been discussing names since finding put we are expecting a boy. I have a James, which I liked but didn't love. Every name is pretty much vetoed by H. We are once again in a situation where I will end up calling our child a name I don't really love.

He is giving me 2 options really of George or William I like them but don't love them at all. IABU as I think I should get a bit of a say especially when I have had a shit pregnancy (hormones speaking!)

Oscar - no. No reason given
Freddie- no. Doesn't like Frederick or Fred
Henry- no. Too old
Otis- I get eye rolling
Arthur- no as he has relative that cannot pronounce 'th' and Arfur would annoy him (I do agree with him on this)

Theo
Rafe
Alfred nn Alfie (though you can sneak Freddie in there too)
Harry
Sebastian

Fwiw I think Arthur is a fab name, tell Dh to pick a couple of your names that he likes and you'll pick your fave out if those. Fairs fair after all.

Pebbles0934 · 08/06/2014 20:21

Can't you just call him Art for short and Dave the pronunciation issue?

To be fair... You have started with James so you have to go down that road and William and George fit that. As does Henry. I think Otis and even Oscar don't really fit with James. But maybe that's just me?

How about Thomas? Joseph? Jonathan? Benjamin?

If it is between William and George, I would definitely choose William as it has numerous nicknames so you have more potential to call him what you like. George is just George.

Thank you. Am going to get him to produce a longer list and see where we go from there!

I LOVE Otis! I wish it would go with my surname but it doesn't! Sad

I do like all the names on your list though. My friend's DH did the same and vetoed all names and they ended up with an Oscar.

ThisFenceIsComfy · 08/06/2014 20:34

Arthur is a great name. If he chose James then you can pick your name now surely.

ThisFenceIsComfy · 08/06/2014 20:36

Sorry just saw your response about Arthur, shame.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 08/06/2014 20:40

Names should be a joint decision rather than one of you giving the other a choice of options. Get stubborn too OP!

OublietteBravo · 08/06/2014 20:58

Wilfred? Quite similar to Willam, but you could still use Freddie as a nn

strawberryjam · 08/06/2014 21:03

I love Wilfred

How on earth can Henry be too old but William and George be fine?! They are all exactly the same type of name, very traditional/Royal, I think that I would be pushing Henry from your list (plus I love it!).

I really like Otis, Freddie and Arthur but I don't think they go so well with James.

Um, no. This time, YOU get to produce a list of what you like and HE chooses from that.

A simple no to George and William. No.

bakingtins · 09/06/2014 06:39

The website canidae mentioned is namedtogether.com

I don't think you should have to pick from two options DH loves, but you may have to compromise on a name you both like.

Wilfred is great!

squoosh · 09/06/2014 11:55

He chose your first child's name and he is telling you your second child will be called one of two names he has picked?

Seriously?

strawberryjam · 09/06/2014 13:28

The two names are two names that were on the list but for me in the 'ok' part not the I love part. Same with James. I want to pick a name I love
