5-syllable double barrel… too much?

The subject really says it all. I don't use my husband's name but we would really like our baby to use both. But is 5 syllables just too much to inflict on a newborn? Especially when they're going to have first and middle names as well?

My DC have a 6 syllable double barrel. It never occurred to me that the amount of syllables should affect our choice. It's too important a choice to allow this to affect it.

What I did do was choose short first names and now they are at school they are often referred to as one name or the other...and sometimes as

Jo M-Wilkinson for example rather than Jo Molyneux-Wilkinson. (made up name by the way!)

Nope, not too many at all. He's not going to realise his name is longer than other people's, it will just be his name.

I know a couple who gave their child a 5 syllable surname and they feel fine about it. My daughter has a 4 syllable double barrell surname...if you want a 5 syllable surname then go for it. I would give a one or two syllable first name though. Hugh fearnley-whittingtstall has 5 syllable surname and i think his name is great

Thanks all! We will go with it, it's a mouthful but you're right winnibago, too important to care. And I have short first names in mind anyway!

The number of syllables is less important than the metre of the name, IMHO.
