Any thoughts?
Do you know any?
BTW I am not pregnant or TTC but thankfully Dd is a girl because I can never decide on which boy name I would chose in case I had a son.

I know a 7-year-old Eric (it's not usually spelt with a K).

Can't say I like it much. It's still an old man's name to me, but maybe due a revival?

squoosh · 01/06/2014 17:36

I don't like Eric/k.

It's a weedy man's name.

dyslexicdespot · 01/06/2014 17:42

I really like it. It's a very historical name in Sweden, with good contotations. Although, you would spell it with a 'k'.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 01/06/2014 17:52

Eric is not a weedy man's name! There have been some fantastic Erics - Eric Morecambe (English comedy legend), Eric Idle (ditto), Eric Cantona (French football legend), Eric Clapton (guitar player/God), Eric Satie (French composer), Eric Sykes (English comedian), Eric Carle (Very Hungry Caterpillar author), Eric Burdon (lead singer The Animals), Eric Stewart (lead singer 10CC) for starters, and that's just looking at the traditional English spelling.

I am very biased as someone close to me is called Eric and he is fantastic and absolutely not weedy, so my associations with the name are all positive.

I wouldn't spell it Erick as nobody will expect it to be spelled that way and it will constantly have to be corrected.

scarletforya · 01/06/2014 17:55

I really don't like it.

Etah · 01/06/2014 21:22

oh interesting, where I come from EriCK is the right spelling, so EriC or EriK reads very weird for me.

I wouldn't choose this name than, as I live in the UK and I would like an easy name which won't cause too much confusion with spellings and pronunciation.

Eric or Erik (every second scandinavian)

TheMightyMing · 02/06/2014 08:37

Tis a big name in my family, I have an Uncle Eric, my dad is called Eric and a cousin Eric 'known as young Eric' :)

Oh yes and here is the latest Eric. Our dog named after my dad and Eric Cantona (he is wearing his United blanket here!!!) :)

I don't really like the spelling Eric, but I do like Erik. To me Eric says scrawny bespectacled middle-aged businessman, whereas Erik says tall, athletic blond Scandinavian. So I would definitely go with the K.

I have never seen it spelled Erick.

Bunbaker · 02/06/2014 08:50

Where is Eric spelled Erick?

Etah · 02/06/2014 14:24

It's spelled Erick in Spain and South America

I think the reason I see Eric as being weedy is because Bananaman's real name was Eric Wimp.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 02/06/2014 15:08

Which reminds me - Eric Bana! Far from weedy.

Eric Estrada- the 'hunky' cop from 70's US show Chips!

Horrible name

grocklebox · 02/06/2014 19:25

Good name, but pick a c or a k, both is just greedy, and looks weird.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 02/06/2014 19:34

I shall resist the urge to stamp my foot and say 'Not a horrible name!' and throw something. It just shows the power of association. There was a vile girl in my primary school class called Karen and she ruined the name for me for many years until my children's best and most favourite primary school teacher (known to them by her first name) overlaid those early bad associations with new, extremely positive ones.
