What do people think about the name Paddy (he would be Patrick on his birth certificate)...?

Love it.

tobiasfunke · 30/05/2014 15:05

I know a Paddy and a Patrick. Both lovely.

BlueChampagne · 30/05/2014 17:08

Fab

Love Patrick and allies derivatives apart from Paddy. Hate Paddy. But that's a personal thing, it's not an awful name to give someone.

WanderingOakensHoohoo · 30/05/2014 17:11

I bloody love it! DD was due on St Patrick's Day and DH is from Norn Iron so Paddy was my fave boy's name. I was a bit gutted when she was 2 weeks late and a girl! Have since met a woman called Paddy - should have just gone with it!

Onesleeptillwembley · 30/05/2014 17:11

Allies? All its derivatives.

MsTonks · 30/05/2014 17:34

Its my husbands name :) I've always loved it

JustGrrrrrreat · 30/05/2014 17:35

If you are in England he will get asked if he is Irish All. The. Time. Nothing wrong with that but it can get a little wearing to answer the same question over and over and over again. (Londoner with Irish sounding name here)

MsTonks · 30/05/2014 17:48

Honestly, he probably won't get that a lot. Like I said, my husbands name is Patrick and he's had someone ask him that once, maybe twice in his whole life.

JustGrrrrrreat · 31/05/2014 11:41

Is your husband known as Patrick, Pat or Paddy?

CoreyTrevorLahey · 31/05/2014 11:43

My family is full of Patricks - I love that name Smile. And Paddy is great.

RyvitaBerry · 31/05/2014 14:55

Love Patrick. Not super keen on Paddy. I don't mind people saying it but writing it down would be a a bit much.

MsTonks · 31/05/2014 16:18

He's known as Paddy, and seriously, he rarely gets asked if he's Irish. I can see why you would think he would, but its not something that comes up, especially not to an annoying degree.

JustGrrrrrreat · 31/05/2014 19:06

Thats so odd. My maiden name was Irish sounding and my first name could fit that theory though not specifically so and I used to get asked about where my family were from all the time. Odd looks ensued when I said London for at least 3 generations. And then repeat....

SquirrelledAway · 31/05/2014 19:15

It's DS2's middle name (DH also Norn Iron) and our best friends have a Patrick which is sometimes shortened to Pat rather than Paddy. You'll know as he develops into his own person if he's a Paddy or a Pat.

poppydaisy · 01/06/2014 07:27

I like Patrick. Wouldn't shorten it at all but would think Pat is a natural nickname.

Don't really like Paddy - sounds like a little pad...

Monkeyandanimal · 01/06/2014 07:35

like it a lot; it was on our short list. classic.

Mynewone · 01/06/2014 07:47

Patrick is ok but I don't like paddy as a nn

Only1scoop · 01/06/2014 07:47

jimsdoll · 01/06/2014 20:53

Bowlersarm · 01/06/2014 21:01

Thumbs up from me. Love both.

AntinousWild · 01/06/2014 21:03

I love Patch as a nn.

DramaAlpaca · 01/06/2014 21:06

I like Patrick but I've never been that keen on any of the diminutives, so used Patrick as a middle name for one of my DSs.

However, I've now decided that Paddy is actually quite cool having met a teenage one recently.
