After discussion with DP we have narrowed the options for baby's name down to these, all opinions welcome (and other suggestions!)
Boy:
George - DP's fave
Theodore (nn Teddy) - my fave

Girl:
Kitty - my fave
Beatrice
Matilda (nn Tilly)
Eleanor (nn Nora) - DP's fave
Isobel (nn Belle - dislike Izzy)

Thanks guys :)

George

and

Eleanor

Hakluyt · 28/05/2014 09:58

Theodore- but Theo, not Teddy.
Eleanor- but Nell, not Nora.

I haven't helped, have I?

Love both boys names and I like kitty although a might stick something longer like Katherine on the birth certificate. Other girls names are also lovely although Isabel seems really popular up here at the moment

alita7 · 28/05/2014 10:46

Isobel or Beatrice for a girl.

Theodore for a boy.

itsnothingoriginal · 28/05/2014 10:48

Theodore (but much prefer Theo as nn)
Eleanor (never thought of Nora as nn for Eleanor but is sweet!)

mammabear4 · 28/05/2014 11:15

Thanks everyone! I love them all so it's going to be a difficult choice. I am a bit torn about Kitty as I prefer full version names but hate Katherine (have a non blood related auntie called Katherine and she's very odd) and my great grandma was just Kitty on its own! She was also born 13th August 1914... If baby is a girl and comes on the 13th August (dd 10th) I'd have to name her Kitty then, 100 years to the day!

Also love Theo as a nn so if he ended up being a Theo (through friends or personal choice) I'd still be happy!

Your reasons for Kitty are lovely so think you should go for it! My fave from your list is Eleaor but with Nell as nn. Also like Bea/Beatrice. Tbh they are all fab names!

I love the name George but it is just so popular now, so I would go with Theodore.

QuietNinjaTardis · 28/05/2014 11:20

Definitely theo. And Eleanor or Isobel. Nicknamed belle is nice. Matilda is really popular at the mo.

devoncreamtea · 28/05/2014 11:21

Kitty or Beatrice for girl.

I thinl Eleanor would be Ellie and Isabel Izzy in the end despite your best efforts; Matilda is extremely popular (not that it matters if you love the name of course).

Theodore is a sweet name and George is good to, would be nice as a 1st and middle either way round.

How wonderful to have that connection to your g.grandma - I'd go for that even if not born on 13th, it's such a lovely idea.

Bowlersarm · 28/05/2014 11:22

Kitty

Or

Teddy.

Love love love Kitty.

Daisymasie · 28/05/2014 17:10

Teddy and Kitty. Eleanor is lovely, but not Nora.

Viatrix · 28/05/2014 17:23

George or Kitty.

mammabear4 · 28/05/2014 18:25

Thanks everyone I'm so happy there's been such a positive reaction to our list! I'll read some of your replies to DP you've given us plenty to think about so far. I think we're leaning more towards Theodore if it's a boy and arguing over Kitty/Eleanor!

Theodore and Matilda or Beatrice.

I would avoid Eleanor but I love Nora -- why not use it as a name in its own right? What I would worry about in the case of Eleanor is that it would get shortened to Ellie which is extremely popular right now, regardless of family preference.

Nora can be short for Honora, Leonora, Eleanora. Or just plain Nora.

mammabear4 · 28/05/2014 19:08

I agree mathanxiety, I don't like Ellie at all - same as I don't like Izzy for Isobel. People have said she wouldn't be an Ellie if you didn't ever refer to her as such and I can see that as in I have a friend called Evelyn who has NEVER been Evie, and my brother is James and has never been Jamie or Jim... But yeah it is still a risk. We would pronounce Eleanor as "ellen-a" and we love how it rolls off the tongue nicely - also goes well with last name which is two syllables beginning with "Green" - so reluctant to totally disregard it at the moment!
