What do you think?

I don't love it...what are its origins?

wrapsuperstar · 24/05/2014 10:52

Noah's wife?

It is unusual and very Old Testament but kind of sparky. I like it, but if I heard a child named it I would assume Jewish (no bad thing at all!)

HairyPorter · 24/05/2014 10:52

Nope. Sorry op- sounds like a hesitant start to Zara- 'what's your name'? 'Erm...Zara'!

Alisvolatpropiis · 24/05/2014 11:04

As wrap says, it's from the Old Testament and was the name of Noah's wife.

I'm not Jewish, my dp has Jewish heritage but isn't practising. I'd not come across it before (clearly didn't read my Bible like a good child) but thought it was really nice. Different, with proper roots but also pretty modern sounding.

I like it better knowing it isn't a name you just made up....but it does sound like a made-up name.....

Alisvolatpropiis · 24/05/2014 11:09

Grin @ Monkey, my dp thought I'd made it up as well.

I think the nod to the heritage could be fun (I am also a couple of generations removed Russian Jewish raised very ordinary English atheist and have a name that reflects this heritage). There are two very conventional shortenings obvious straight away (Em/Emi and Zara) if Emzara felt like too much of a mouthful.

I dig it. It's very different.

WildThong · 24/05/2014 11:19

Horrible, sorry.

Viviennemary · 24/05/2014 11:20

It's dire. Sorry.

lunar1 · 24/05/2014 11:37

How do you say it?

WolfMoon · 24/05/2014 12:28

It looks more like someone saying "Erm, Zara?" as if they're about to ask an awkward question.

Love Zara or Zarah though.

squoosh · 24/05/2014 12:33

It sounds a bit itchy.

threedeer · 24/05/2014 13:03

My first thought was that it was made up. Think the emphasis would be on Em with a short 'a' in the zara, not an 'ah' sound. That way it sounds more traditional. Not wildly keen on it but think it could grow on me. Emily and Zara are both pretty names but maybe a too-safe compromise if you like the unusualness of Emzara.

Don't think it would cause problems. A boy in DC's primary had a very unusual OT name and though lots of the school gate mums raised their brows, the other children loved the name and he was very popular.

Pebbles0934 · 24/05/2014 18:28

Never heard of it before. I quite like it but think she will end up being called em which is a bit boring.

How about Azalea nn Zaylie ??

Not biblical but sounds similar

Fizzyplonk · 24/05/2014 18:46

Zarana or Emmeline maybe?

JazzAnnNonMouse · 24/05/2014 18:53

I really like it Smile
