Liliarna?

So dp and I were chatting earlier and I suggested Liliarna and he really liked it so it's going on the list.

opinions?

I was also thinking if I wanted to I could still call her libby if I went for Liliarna Beatrice? Though Libby and Beatrice are still on the list independently as dp wants to choose when we meet baby.
But then I had decided I wanted my mum's name clare as the middle name so would Liliarna Beatrice clare be a bit much, his surname has 2 syllables?

I think it's Liliana (without the 'r'). I used to work with a Russian girl called that and it suited her because she was Russian if you see what I mean? Not sure about it in this case. Love Beatrice and Libby but thought Libby was short for Elizabeth?

alita7 · 15/05/2014 13:43

it is short for Elizabeth, had a long thread on here about a week ago about why I couldn't use Elizabeth, but I was encouraged to go for libby by itself, though I was thinking Liliarna Beatrice would give me more flexibility!

Is it spelt liliana if it's pronounced Lily - arr - nah I don't like lily - Anna.
We have a card game with a character called Liliarna on one of the cards so maybe Liliana is just the usual spelling?

Yes it's still spelled without the r you just pronounce it differently. I personally wouldn't spell it with an r as it will just look like you misspelled it or made up a new version..

I like the name Smile

Canshopwillshop · 15/05/2014 13:49

The girl I knew was def lily-arr--nah but spelt Liliana. If you prefer the other spelling then it's up to you - people spell names in different ways all the time. Good luck with the decision making.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 15/05/2014 13:50

I think Liliana is the usual spelling for the name pronounced Lily-AH-na, adding an r in the middle makes it look like you're trying to be different/ unique but will probably end up with loads of people misspelling it.

LostMyPants · 15/05/2014 13:51

In Scotland Lilliana would be pronounced Lilly-ah-na. No R. So if you live in Scotland and want people to pronounce the R I'd say leave it in.

alita7 · 15/05/2014 13:52

ok thanks, regardless of the spelling do you think it works with Beatrice clare or is that too much and would it be better to pick one middle name? or would it be ok for a birth certificate?

I live down south so shouldn't have a problem :)

Liliana Beatrice Clare is lovely. Besides, there will be very few times in her life when she needs to tell people her full name.

HolgerDanske · 15/05/2014 13:59

I think it's a great selection of names, they go together well.

Quangle · 15/05/2014 13:59

Liliana definitely. Liliarna looks all wrong. Otherwise it's pretty.

alita7 · 15/05/2014 14:01

I thought it was ok, a bit of a mouth full, but dp thinks having all those names with a two syllable surname is a bit much?

OP posts:
HolgerDanske · 15/05/2014 14:04

But you don't normally use all your names, so as long as the given name and surname match you'll be alright

MsHighwater · 15/05/2014 14:04

I think that if you use the Liliarna spelling, people will
A) think you couldn't spell Liliana, and
B) spell it Liliana anyway

Up to you how much that would bother you.

BaileysOnRocks · 15/05/2014 14:04

I know a Lianna and her name is pronounced lee-arr-na.
I prefer it to liliana.

alita7 · 15/05/2014 15:45

Interestingly after a bit of research, Liliana is possibly 'related' to Elizabeth, which would make it a good choice, as I can't use Elizabeth :)

So (I will make up a surname which has the same sort of sounds) is the general consensus that Liliana Beatrice Clare 'Turmont', is not to much?

OP posts:
BridgeOfWhys · 15/05/2014 15:53

Lovely. Definitely without the r. It looks really wrong with the r for some reason.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 15/05/2014 15:59

Yes, the 'rrrr' looks totally wrong! And very harsh, as if it's meant to be said in a really strong West Country accent. Lily-ARRRRRRR-na!

alita7 · 15/05/2014 16:02

haha maybe it will become LilAARRRRna if she's naughty :P

The 3 names together are fine, and the order is good, but definitely don't put the r in Liliana (unless you think she'll grow up to be a pirate Smile )

alita7 · 15/05/2014 16:11

Now I've got to convince dp that all those names is ok hehe

OP posts:
Viviennemary · 15/05/2014 18:35

The r in it makes it look like a made up name or a mistake. No such name as Liliarna as far as I know.

fancyacupoftea · 15/05/2014 18:42

Definitely Liliana over Liliarna. And if anyone mispronounces you just correct them!

What I would say about the Beatrice thing though is if you like it as a name independently are you considering future children? Would you maybe want to save it? If not then definitely use it!

soontobeslendergirl · 15/05/2014 18:44

I agree with everything said upthread about the "r"......however, out of curiosity, I typed Liliarna into FB and loads came up so clearly it is a common error. I've also come across a Tarnya (Tanya) before and FB reveals loads of those too!!

I'm in Scotland as despite us rolling our Rs, we don't erroneously add them to words so it seems really strange to me :)

NadiaWadia · 15/05/2014 19:17

I really like it (but not with the 'r'). I don't see how its related to Elizabeth, though, isn't it just a European version of Lilian?
