Feminine forms of Paul and Anthony?

MissDeeWindo · 14/05/2014 14:51

Looking for female versions of the above names and so far have come up with the following:

Paula
Pauline
Paulette
Paulina

Antonia
Antoinette

None of them are jumping out at me so hoping that some lateral thinking by the people on this board may help!

Thanks in advance!

Paola
Antonella (very Italian!)

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 14/05/2014 14:57

The only one I can add is Toni. I quite like Paola & Antoinette (Anna, Annie or Netty as possible nn).

ToffeeJungle · 14/05/2014 15:17

I know a Tonia and a Toni-Anne.

Paloma? (probably at a push?!)

dustarr73 · 14/05/2014 16:47

Annette

BumpNGrind · 14/05/2014 17:26

Sorry OP if these are bad suggestions but its quite hard to think of modern variations of those names.

Here goes

I must googled Paul and it means humble in Latin, a quick search later and other names with the same meaning are Annas, Micah and Michael.

Raidne · 14/05/2014 17:33

Through work I recently came across a woman called Anthonette, which is a bit different.

MissDeeWindo · 14/05/2014 17:45

Thanks all. I'm liking Paloma but wonder if that may be too much of a stretch from Paul?

We'd like to use a variation of either of these names in honor of family members but as BumpNGrind says some of them feel quite dated.

I think my favourites so far are Antonia and Paloma but maybe I will look more into alternatives with the same basic meaning or scratch the idea altogether

Anthea, love suggestion of Antonella!

KatieKaye · 14/05/2014 19:12

Polette? (a family name, so I'm a little prejudiced in its favour!)
Pronounced "Po-let" btw.

MsJupiter · 14/05/2014 20:10

Anita?

supadupapupascupa · 14/05/2014 20:12

haha my brother is called Paul Anthony and it's his birthday today... jsut made me smile Grin

RiaOverTheRainbow · 14/05/2014 20:21

Pavla
Paolina/Lina
Polly

Antonina/Nina

Rhubarbgarden · 14/05/2014 20:38

Polly is lovely.

Darmok · 14/05/2014 22:17

Polly can be short for Pauline, it's my favourite.

Netta, Nina, Anna?

Antonia is nice anyway.

Darmok · 14/05/2014 22:18

Pollyanna, named after both?

TheHorseHasBolted · 15/05/2014 17:29

I was about to suggest Paulina with Polly for short too! And Antonella could be Ella for everyday...

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 15/05/2014 17:35

Polly is the best option for Paul.

Antonia is lovely.

florascotia · 15/05/2014 19:00

Paloma is lovely but it is not really related to 'Paul'.
It means 'dove', in Spanish. It comes from the Latin 'palumbus' = dove.

Paul and all its feminine versions ultimately come from Latin Paulus = small or humble.

caker · 15/05/2014 19:05

Anthonina

bstbaby · 19/05/2014 16:50

I would say Antonia, but I really like Anthea in this context. Depends on how you're pronouncing Anthony as to which sounds more similar. Anthea doesn't seem too popular and wouldn't stick out sorely amongst all the Evas and Theos. Possible nicknames are Anne/Anna/Annie/Anthie/Thea/Tee if your DD doesn't like her name, so it's easier to get away with than some namesakes.

CoteDAzur · 19/05/2014 16:52

Pauline
Paulina

Antonella

Viatrix · 19/05/2014 17:10

How about Polina? or even Apollonia or Apolline (I know the latter two aren't related to Paul but Polly could be a possible nickname). Otherwise I quite like Paula and think it deserves a comeback.

What about Antonina with the nickname Nina?

Loverofpeas · 19/05/2014 19:11

Pearl is very similar to Paul. Lovely name too.

florascotia · 19/05/2014 19:16

Re comment earlier in thread, Paloma is a lovely name with an even better meaning (though nothing to do with Paul). Paloma = dove = peace.

Loverofpeas · 19/05/2014 19:20

Peige
Poll
Pia
Petal
Pearla
