So no one liked Ocean or Oceana...

But what about Catkin? I like quirky names as you can tell.

Just Catkin, not short for Catherine.

Thoughts welcome

It sounds like a lovely nickname, but why not Catherine?

If you want a natural name, what about Blossom?

nilbyname · 12/05/2014 21:34

Fan of hunger games much? Very similar to katniss and is a plant name I think??
??

I quite like it, but it is definitely a Marmite name!

Oisin pronounce o-shin, o like in octagon is a lovely welsh name.
What about Wren?

Bowlersarm · 12/05/2014 21:34

No. It's horrible.

Like pussycat, or cattykins.

Would you really want to be called that?

burgatroyd · 12/05/2014 21:35

Mutton I already have one

I think people will think that you must mean Catrin, and change it to that. I love Catrin.

burgatroyd · 12/05/2014 21:35

I always wanted to be called all sorts but that's another story!

Catrin is lovely.

mathanxiety · 13/05/2014 04:29

Catrin is really nice.

JohnBarleycorn · 13/05/2014 04:55

Catkin as in the yellow blobby bits that hang off trees? Ha ha ha ha!

Chottie · 13/05/2014 05:24

Catkin - please no, -it sounds like a pet name for a favourite cat (IMO)

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 13/05/2014 08:53

I am delighted that you like Catrin! I have 2 DSs so I haven't been able to use it. It is Welsh. So pleased you like it. I also like Carys (you pronounce it Carr -iss. Imagine you're saying Larr as in Larry. And then put iss on the end).

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 13/05/2014 09:31

Catrin is lovely. I quite like Catkin, but not necessarily easy to live with.

A school friend has a dd called Siskin after the bird, which I think is very pretty.

callamia · 13/05/2014 09:42

Catkin sounds like a lesser-known Beatrix Potter character. It's a bit too twee for me, and I love twee.

OwlCapone · 13/05/2014 09:46

Catrin, yes.
Catkin, no.

grocklebox · 13/05/2014 11:30

Great name....for a cat. But dont inflict it on a child.

Koothrapanties · 13/05/2014 11:31

Thanks to mm catkin leads to sootikin in my head... That is not a good thing.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 13/05/2014 11:32

absolutely not.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 13/05/2014 11:33

However I quite like Oceane (french) pr O say anne

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 13/05/2014 11:35

Catkin is ridiculous. Catrin is lovely, and is an actual name, as opposed to Catkin.

From Wikipedia (I know Blush
"a catkin is a slim, cylindrical flower cluster, with inconspicuous or no petals, usually wind-pollinated but sometimes insect pollinated. They contain many, usually unisexual flowers, arranged closely along a central stem which is often drooping".

Just because a word sounds pretty when you say it, doesn't mean you can use it as a child's name.

QueenofallIsee · 13/05/2014 11:36

Catkin would be a no no for me - they aren't particularly nice looking or nice smelling, no petals just weird droopy things and are also called ament which means thong.

Go with Catrin, much better
