What do you think of Guy?

Hi,

We are really really struggling for boys names. My DH suggested Guy last night.

I don't hate it, but I don't think I love it either. It seems rather simple to me. It also doesn't feel like a little boys name to me, more appropriate for an adult.

What's your reaction?

Thank you!

I actually really like it and have just realised it would go really well with our surname (not that I'm pg, still getting over birth of DD!)
We only had 1 choice for a boy - Seb but next time around we might have 2 if DP likes Guy.
And he probably will because we are huge fans of Guy Martin!

Grotbagstwin · 12/05/2014 15:29

I love this name, would love another ds to use it.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 12/05/2014 15:31

Hmm. There's nothing actually wrong with it but it just does not do it for me! A mix of dated and slightly odd - it should be interesting and unusual but somehow it just isn't.

Gabriel?

burgatroyd · 12/05/2014 21:13

Think its great!

yomellamoHelly · 12/05/2014 21:19

Fab name. (Is ds2's name!) Was rather underwhelmed by everyone's reaction to it tbh. And the spanish midwife just didn't understand it at all, so his nametags just said "boy" even though we told her his name. I don't care though!

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 13/05/2014 09:36

I like it :) Gregory is another one I love, in a similar vein. I wanted Greg for a boy, but had to let dh have a day, sadly.

Raia · 13/05/2014 09:45

I love it. He will grow up to be a cool jazz musician Wink

flipflopsonfifthavenue · 13/05/2014 12:45

funnily enough I was just in a work meeting where a colleague said something about having to send something to Guy suchand such and I was struck at how cool it sounded when she said it out loud! I might mention it to DP tonight for DC2!

RabbitPies · 13/05/2014 13:35

I hate it. It's a very unattractive name, and seems like calling a baby 'man' or 'boy'.

UriGeller · 13/05/2014 20:13

A 'Mark' is a thing, like a stain or a scratch, Fideline.

Imagine, "Here is my best beloved boy child, so precious and longed for, I name him.....mark" Confused

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/05/2014 20:38

It's one of the boys' names I like least, sorry, along with Seth.

RiverTam · 13/05/2014 21:46

it's a French name originally, isn't it? Not quite sure where 'guy' meaning 'man' came from. I have to say I would never associate the name Guy with guy the word, to me they are totally separate.

I love Guy, it was a real option if one of the DTDs had been a boy.

Although I laughed at the poster who said they have a friend called Guy who interrupts conversations when it's used as in "This guy" - I have one of those too! Smile

Rhubarbgarden · 14/05/2014 20:37

I love it. But then I have a Gus which I suppose is quite similar.

JapaneseMargaret · 15/05/2014 11:06

Uri - I have always thought exactly that, re Mark. Grin

Such a bizarre name choice for a little baby boy.

My first major crush was on a Guy. He was significantly older than me and yes, would be 50-something now.

Still have a bit of a soft spot for it...

JapaneseMargaret · 15/05/2014 11:09

I'm an Is o bel, and I always head-spin when people say, 'is a ...' in convo, so can definitely relate to Montsti's friend...

darksideofthemooncup · 15/05/2014 11:16

I love it, a good strong name (it also helps that I know 3 Guys and they are all supercool and handsome)

Ludways · 15/05/2014 11:24

Uri, you've caused much hilarity in my house this morning, well for me anyway, dh just looks bemused. I leave you to guess his name! Lol

For what it's worth, I agree!

Branleuse · 15/05/2014 11:27

i rather like it

Fullpleatherjacket · 15/05/2014 11:28

Soon as I saw this I thought 'gorilla' then 'Fawkes'.

Not keen.

BumpNGrind · 15/05/2014 15:13

I see it as a posh name and picture someone who wears chinos and has a chiseled jaw and blonde foppish hair. I see it as a mid 20s name not an older man. You have to have a fairly unusual surname to carry it off Guy Jones wouldn't work as well IMO.
