These are good sibling names, right?

My friend has a DD, Grace. She is pregnant with a DS she plans to name Charlie.

I mentioned it to my mother and she said Grace and Charlie don't "go together." Confused I think they have exactly the same sort of "feel" iyswim.

Don't they?

Names don't need to 'match'!

Grace and Charlie are both very trendy/popular names and I don't see why they wouldn't work for siblings..?

EyelinerQueen · 12/05/2014 12:06

Yes they're both dull safe and popular names so go together.

ikeaismylocal · 12/05/2014 12:07

I don't think it has anything at all to do with your mother.

My great grandparents were called Grace and Charles (although obviously not siblings!) I think Grace is more formal than Charlie but I don't think it really matters.

I wouldn't mention to your friend what your mum thinks.

CheerfulYank · 12/05/2014 12:09

Oh, no plans to mention it to her at all! :)

It's just that I've always been really "into" names and feel like I know people's style, if you know what I mean. So my mother saying that has made me second guess myself! Wink

She is planning on Charlie, not Charles, which makes me shudder, but I accept thia is my issue and not hers.

I think by the time names actually start to matter, when the child starts applying for jobs the siblings are unlikely to know the same people anyway.

I like the name Charlie but Charles feels like an old man name to me so I understand why she would go for Charlie.

CheerfulYank · 12/05/2014 12:14

I know! I completely understand just Charlie, it's just an issue I have. I named my son something I didn't like at the time because I couldn't put a "nickname" on the BC. I'm so odd Blush

I had the same issue with Teddy and Edward, I love the name Teddy, couldn't bring myself to call a baby Edward.

Atbeckandcall · 12/05/2014 12:22

Firstly they don't sound odd together but even if your dd is called Ophelia and your ds is called Trevor. It doesn't matter! Grin

CheerfulYank · 12/05/2014 12:26

You could do Theodore or Frederick Ikea. Or just Teddy, whatever :)

It's just an odd issue I have. I hear about someone who was Billy on his BC and it gave me a shudder... I don't even know him. Confused

Theodore is a fab name, ds1 is called Elvin though, so I think people might think we love the chipmunks! Frederick is also a great name but we know 4 men with that name so it's sort of taken.

CheerfulYank · 12/05/2014 12:34

When I was pregnant last time I wanted to have a Frederick after my grandfather, but call him Rex for short. Still not sure if that was hormones or not! :o The baby ended up being Margaret. :)

I think they go well together, in fact I know siblings called Grace and Charlie!
