Due in 6 weeks with our baby boy. We keep arguing about names and I love Iden. DP like it but is unsure as says it is so unusual. Means prosperous.

Middle name would need to be John

RubyRedRoseBlue · 05/05/2014 20:49

It looks like you forgot to put the a on aiden.

VelvetStrider · 05/05/2014 20:53

It's a place near Rye in Sussex. Has a good pottery....

Darmok · 06/05/2014 13:32

Tbh I'd think it was a typo for Eden, which is popular now for girls.

PunkAssMoFo · 06/05/2014 16:48

Iden john doesn't really 'go'.

florascotia · 06/05/2014 17:21

Have not heard of Iden, except as a place name or a surname. Some early English settlers in America had the surname Iden.

There is Edern ( eh-dern) a Breton version of Anglo-Saxon name Edward, which means 'rich guard' or 'guardian of riches'.

There is Edan (ay-dan) a version of Irish name Aidan, which means 'fire'.

There is Idunn (ee-dunn) the Norse goddess of youth and fruitfulness.

There is Ide (ee-dah) an Irish girl's name meaning 'love for goodness/ knowledge'.

I may be wrong, but I can find no reliable source for Iden = prosperous (many babyname websites can't really be trusted). It may be a modern version of 'Edern', perhaps??

But if you like the name, then use it!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/05/2014 18:01

I've never heard it used as a name, and tbh I'd think you'd either made it up or spelled Aiden incorrectly.

meditrina · 06/05/2014 18:04

I've never come across it, and son't take to it (sorry).

I think inwardly I'm spelling it iDen.

Swoosg · 06/05/2014 21:40

Never heard of it... But I like it!

mathanxiety · 07/05/2014 00:24

Sounds like Aiden with an east end accent.

InvaderZim · 07/05/2014 00:54

I know an North American who used it, personally I prefer Aiden.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 07/05/2014 09:12

It's a village in Sussex I think.

How about Innes John?

UriGeller · 07/05/2014 09:13

Eden.

Blu · 07/05/2014 09:17

Fine as long as your surname isn't Seek.

Swisskissingisbetterthenfrench · 07/05/2014 18:26

Hayden haydon

Ivo Ivan

YussMinister · 07/05/2014 23:48

Oh blu that made me actually lol!

It does look like a misspelt or incomplete name to me, sorry OP. And with John after... even worse.

What about Idris?

Anjou · 07/05/2014 23:59

I haven't heard it before. If it's pronounced 'eye-dun', then it sounds like someone saying the composer Haydn but dropping the 'H'. If it's pronounced 'Eye-denn' then it sounds like 'ident', as in the little trailers on tv channels to advertise their brand. It doesn't sound like a name to my ears, I'm afraid.

How about Ivan, Ivo, Hayden, Ilium?

BOFster · 08/05/2014 00:03

It sounds a bit like a New Zealander is saying Aiden. And once that's in your head, it's had to shift. Like I can't say 'bison' without thinking it's a mangled 'baisin'.

sallysparrow157 · 08/05/2014 00:04

John iden runs better than iden John. Then he can be known as iden but if he doesn't like having a less common name when he is older it is easy to revert to John.

MrsCouchman · 08/05/2014 08:50

Go with what you like. I love it. My sons cayden & we didn't tell anyone his name until after he was born as I was fed up with opinions. People won't tell u they don't like it once baby's here! X

NellieSocks · 09/05/2014 13:34

Sounds too much like an Apple product to me.

Bunbaker · 09/05/2014 13:35

Iden no = I dunno

It's a no from me.

Pancakeflipper · 09/05/2014 13:43

If I heard that name I would think they were called Aiden. I think correctly muppets like me in his life time will drive him bonkers.
