Florascotia... Do you prefer classic names, unusual or just plain bonkers dadaesque creations?

Not sure why the concept of a name being attractive or not is foreign, and I say this as the owner of a not particularly pleasant-sounding surname.

Delaney has "delay" as the first two syllables, which I don't think is ideal in a first name personally.

Is it for a boy or girl? Doesn't really make any difference as it's a terrible name in my opinion.

Like something silly and American

Probably classic ones. Since I am Scottish, classic to me means some traditional Scottish names as well as the usual English ones. Classic names are dignified and open-ended, if you see what I mean. They give a person who has them room to breathe and be themselves without the risk of others making assumptions. But names change all the time, and what we consider classic today may not be the same as classic names several hundred years ago. I do quite like some fairly out of the ordinary names, but mostly 'rediscovered' older ones - because I am interested in history- rather than newly-created ones. And, like everyone else, some names appeal to me simply because of their sound, or because they have good associations. Am not a fan of mock old names (eg Tolkien and later fantasy books or TV) or (as you will have gathered) 'creative' spellings. It annoys me when some baby name sites invent meanings for names, rather than investigating the actual, evidence-based information.

But all these are just my personal preferences. Of course parents have the absolute right to choose whatever name they like for their children, and good luck to them.
