Ok so I know double barrelled is not liked by everyone and I also know that Lucy is not for everyone but it has been my all time favorite name forever, I just think it's pretty and timeless!

The DB is not a def just something I'm toying with, first thought about Lucy-Kate then I thought of Lucy-Ellen, the Ellen part was actually my grandmothers name (Mary-Ellen)

So far people I have told clearly don't like it just wanted some man views?

I love Lucy, I have one myself who is an absolute joy. I wouldn't double barrel it with anything because I think it's a name that stands alone well and the simplicity is one of the things I like most. Lucy's middle name is Kate (after my GM)

Clargo55 · 27/04/2014 11:20

I think Lucy and Ellen are both lovely names. I would not double barrel them, personally I would just use Ellen as a middle name.

DrFunkesFamilyBandSolution · 27/04/2014 11:24

It souds like a Waltons character but I like it (lucy-kate doesnt have the same 'flow').

Kate-Ellen is nice too.

AnythingNotEverything · 27/04/2014 11:27

Cargo has said exactly what I was going to say.

Lovely names, but definitely two separate names IMO.

Catflap1 · 27/04/2014 11:46

It is quite Walton like isn't it, maybe your all right saying not to double barrel, chances are only the Lucy would end up bring used everday so pretty pointless

Just Lucy is lovely.

Bunbaker · 27/04/2014 11:55

I really like the name Lucy, but really dislike double barrelled names. Round here they don't have very nice connotations. The only children I have known with hyphenated names have dropped the name after the hyphen.
I also like your middle name choices.

Lucy Ellen or Lucy Kate are lovely.

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/04/2014 12:05

It sounds a bit Dynasty.

Bunbaker · 27/04/2014 12:07

Or Dallas. Sue-Ellen anyone?

LyndaCartersBigPants · 27/04/2014 13:04

I immediately thought of Dallas too, but maybe if you're not an old gimmer younger it's not an issue!

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/04/2014 13:16

I'm 25 and thought of Dallas...granted got it confused with Dynasty! Grin

Catflap1 · 27/04/2014 18:31

Lol Dallas was the first thing my friend said to, that and the Walton's!

My friend who said this has a double bralled name and actually hates it, she dropped the second part (marie) as soon as she could, most people don't even know her name is DB

think I just like that a DB name gives options if you decide once older you would rather be called one or the other

Catflap, you can do that with a first and middle name.

It used to be really common for people to be known by their middle names, when first names were often family names. My mother is always known by her middle name, and hardly anyone knows her first name.

It also used to be quite common for people to have unhyphenated double names (like when Princess Margaret was a child, she was known as 'Margaret Rose'). I have an unhyphenated double name.

I think a hyphenated name actually restricts choice, if anything. Lucy Ellen could be Lucy, or Ellen, or Lucy Ellen. No hyphen required.

LEMmingaround · 27/04/2014 22:11

I am Lucy Ellen's mum!! - but she is just called lucy :) no hyphen. Of course i think they re lovely names!

Catflap1 · 27/04/2014 22:33

Lemingaround is Lucy Ellen her first name or is Ellen her middle name? I think they sound so pretty together which is why I was thinking of hyphenating!

Like I said its not a def could well just use Ellen as a middle name just looking at my options

OP posts:
Twighlightsparkle · 27/04/2014 22:36

love it.

i am biased as I have one of these but I love the hyphen.

LEMmingaround · 27/04/2014 22:41

Its a middle name. They do together well.

Vikingbiker · 27/04/2014 22:49

Just Lucy is nice. Ellen for the middle name

mathanxiety · 28/04/2014 06:19

I don't mind hyphens, but I would resist using one here because it really is far too TV family-ish.

Yika · 28/04/2014 06:38

Both very pretty names and work well together. I think there's nothing wrong with hyphenating. If you don't hyphenate she will likely just end up as Lucy.

BalloonSlayer · 28/04/2014 06:45

I think it sounds lovely

BUT

Most children with double barrelled names drop one quite quickly because they do sound very babyish.

AND

Almost every girl at school at the moment has a "ll" in her name. There are what seems like hundreds of Ellas, Ellies, Millies, Mollies, Lilies. She may well not be the only Lucy Ellen in her class - you'd be surprised!

OverlookedConfection · 28/04/2014 06:49

I have a Lucy (who is Lucy Frances) and I just love it. My favourite name for ever. I agree with not DB them though, Lucy Ellen is gorgeous

Delphiniumsblue · 28/04/2014 06:50

I think Lucy Ellen is lovely as long as you DON'T use the hyphen. Just Lucy with Ellen as a middle name. There isn't much point in having a hyphen as the poor child will drop it as soon as they think it babyish.

WiiUnfit · 28/04/2014 19:01

I know a Lucy Ellen too, no hyphen. It's lovely Smile
