Our surname begins with a W but we really like Wilfred, nn Wilfie but he might be called willie at school! We also like Ralph nn ralphie.

Any other suggestions?

Bertie?

Other older English names I guess? Alfred, Edmund, Edwin, Wilbert etc?

I doubt a Wilfred will get called Willie.

Like Wilfred but not Ralph. Shame about W surname though - dislike alliterative names, personally.

How are you pronouncing 'Ralph'?

I don't like the American pronunciation of 'R-alf' but LOVE the original (English?) pronunciation of 'R-ayf' or 'R-aif' (to rhyme with waif.) Unfortunately if you chose the latter everyone would be pronouncing it the American way - apart from my friends and I that is who would all automatically chose the latter!

DramaQueenofHighCs · 27/04/2014 08:48

For those reasons btw I'd think 'Ralph' would be a confusing name to give as they'd be constantly asked how to pronounce it/spell it. (Of am I the only person on here who knows the original way of saying it?)

I like both Wilfred and Ralph. I also like Alec, Dominic, Ernest, Gregory, Hugh, Isaac and Percy.

(And if you are feeling brave I also like Erasmus, Isambard and Orion).
