I want full names that can have Pip as a nickname. For girls.

I have thought of Penelope and Phillipa (obviously).

Any other ideas please :)

MistletoeBUTNOwine · 23/04/2014 08:20

My DS is called Sachin, and his nn is Pip Grin
Always has been!

Efferlunt · 23/04/2014 08:21

Piper

Nestabee · 23/04/2014 08:23

I don't want pippa (as I read it was a rude word!)

I don't like piper as all I think of is a pipe Hmm

That most Mumsnetty of names...

Persephone

Nestabee · 23/04/2014 11:11

No I definitely could not use Persephone! Grin

Clementine.

florascotia · 23/04/2014 12:32

Ha,Ha Savoy, very clever! I really like the name Clementine; prefer it to Persephone.

Pepita (pet name derived from Joseph, but also used for melon/squash seeds/pips)

more seriously:

Philomena
Philomela (lover of fruit/sweetness)
Phillida
Phyllis
Pomona (= fruit tree)
Poppy (very easy to turn that into 'pippy' = pip)

Or there is just Pippi, as in the Pippi Longstocking children's books. If good ol' Wikipedia is to be believed, the story character claims that her name is "Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Ephraim's Daughter Longstocking"

Graciejoylove8 · 23/04/2014 13:11

I love Pip. Don't you wish it was just a name on its own!? I think you should brave it.
Other than that; Maybe Posey, Pippi, Poppy, Polly, Parker, Pearl, Peonie, Pepper, perry, Petria, Phaedra, Pia, Piaf (love), Pixie, primrose, Penrose, Priscilla. I would have suggested as florascotia has also

I've been hustling M names hoping to get Mim as a nn.

florascotia · 23/04/2014 14:01

Gracie I once met a Mirabel with nickname 'Mim'.

Graciejoylove8 · 23/04/2014 22:19

Flora, you've just bumped it above Ivy for me :)

Nestabee · 24/04/2014 10:29

Hmm I don't like any suggestions, but thank you anyway. P names seem to be difficult. I am leaning towards Penelope.

lovehopejoy · 24/04/2014 11:43

Phillippa! That's my preferred first name...although we're now adopting so unlikely.

florascotia · 24/04/2014 18:06

Gracie Hooray! I like Mirabel and it combines 'wonder' with 'beautiful' and that can't be bad for any baby girl.

Nesta Penelope is a truly classic name, and one has to admire the original for her intelligence and fortitude. Odysseus was famously cunning, but Penelope used her intelligence, too...

Bohemond · 24/04/2014 18:14

I'm having Calliope nn Poppy - could also have nn Pip?

Lj8893 · 24/04/2014 18:21

gracie I know two Amy's with the nickname mim!

Graciejoylove8 · 25/04/2014 11:01

Now I'm hogging nesta's thread :)

barnet · 25/04/2014 11:15

Josephine
(Since Pip and Pep can be short for Joseph)

MrsTamkin · 26/04/2014 18:57

I know a Miriam nn Mim ( sorry you've probably already thought of that one...)

Would Pip work as a nn if you found a name and middle name that went together? I had a friend at uni whose name was Kimberly, but her initials we also , cleverly KIM

So - something like - Polly Imogen primrose ( obviously play around with names that flow well/you like)

MadameJosephine · 26/04/2014 22:12

My DD is Jennifer but has been pip since my scan at 6 weeks showed a little pip. I sometimes have to make an effort to use her actual name!
