Is Hayley dying out?

Hi all,

I'm not expecting a DD but friend is who I met with earlier. She mentioned Hayley (she prefers spelling Hailey) and I'd actually virtually forgotten about the name! I love discussing baby names so am on this page a lot but never see it mentioned these days...now she's mentioned it I think it is really pretty. Does anyone know any little Hayley's?

She said her DH is against it because of "Hay" as a nickname, as in saying "Hey Hay!"

I know two Hayleys, but they're young adults (early 20's) rather than small children.

No, only older ones. But if she does use it, ask her not to try to be yoonique with that ridiculous spelling.

I know one aged 15.

I know of two adult Hayleys i don't think it will die out as such but it's too early for it to be considered a classic and make a come back. On that bad is I like it. Ds has a name that was popular in the 70's and 80's but rarely heard now. I like the fact it's unlikely to make a sudden come back during his childhood.

I think there are a lot of little American Hayley's in comparison with British.

I heard one being called to the other day in the area I live in (Wales, not America), she was about 5 I think. So there's at least 1!

I think it's a really pretty name. I know a few in their 30's.

I teach one who is 8 years old.

All the others I know are adults.

I really like it.

It died out on Coronation Street in a lovely tear jerking scene.

I don't know of any under 20, but of the ones I know now the spellings are all different.
Hayley, Hayleigh, Haylee, Haley and Hailey.

I'm a 80's child and Hayley was the most common spelling.

There were loads of Hayley's at school. All the spellings were different - I've known Hayley, Haley, Hailee and yes even a Hailey. I think Hayley is the most common (and my least favourite)

Babynames.com gives Haylie, Haylee, Hailee, Hayleigh as alternative spellings here My favourite spelling is Hailee.

I've never met a British Hayley who spelt it any other way. America is a different story though.

The little Hayley I teach is spelt Hailie so I think that's yet another one for the list!

I'm a mid 80s born Hayley & there are lots of us, havn't met any little ones or even ones under 25 really.
Iv never in my life been called hay hay! I got a few Haze, and from 6th form & uni days was called H by most friends. Now at 30 I'm Hayley to everyone except my nan who calls me Lilly/lil (no clue why) my dad midge, and DP Berry (Halle berry) oh and my childhood friend How - which I hate but since age 3 can't ever remember her calling me anything else.

I know of one Hailie under 5. Her dad is a massive Eminem fan and named her after Eminem's daughter.
