I love Maeve, not so keen on Dermot. But its your thought that matters!

Polonius · 12/04/2014 22:13

Are you Irish? I really like it!

Mrswellyboot · 12/04/2014 22:16

Yes, Irish

ThePigOfHappiness · 12/04/2014 22:20

I prefer the softer sound of Diurmuid
Meadhbh is beautiful. I don't really like it anglicised

Polonius · 12/04/2014 22:20

Especially like it then! Not that you can only use your own cultural names, but an Irish name on and Irish kid makes sense, doesn't it?

DramaAlpaca · 12/04/2014 22:25

I like Maeve/Meadhbh a lot. Dermot is OK, but prefer Diarmuid.

I hope you don't mind me referring to your other names thread while I'm answering this one. I really like Joseph and have used it myself as a middle name. I think Brendan is a bit old-fashioned but it's a nice name with a retro feel and may be due for a revival.

Mary is much rarer in Ireland now, I only know a couple of young Marys. I'm not fond of Ellen at all, but I've noticed it's becoming popular again.

squoosh · 12/04/2014 22:49

Dermot and Maeve are fine but they're a bit...............sensible.

mathanxiety · 13/04/2014 06:08

Like them both.

Mrswellyboot · 13/04/2014 09:19

Squoosh we are very sensible Grin

People would expect it from us I think. Even the last baby, they were like 'ah, thought so' with baby name.

MoreSkyThanWeNeed · 13/04/2014 09:21

Both good.

What's your last baby's name?

stonygreysoil · 15/04/2014 06:41

solid. Would go for the irish spelling if living in ireland.

Allalonenow · 15/04/2014 06:51

I love Maeve.
Dermot is fine, or how about Declan or Rory?

Mrswellyboot · 19/04/2014 11:03

We've shortened the list down to

Dermot Brendan
Joseph Brendan
Brendan Joseph

Or

Maeve Ann
Ellen Mary
Mary Ellen

We have a long Irish surname .. what would you pick ?

My daughter is goung to be Meadbh! love it.

GrassIsSinging · 19/04/2014 12:11

Maeve is lovely.

I really dont like Dermot. Hard and dated. Diarmuid is slightly better, but there are much nicer Irish boys names out there.

UriGeller · 19/04/2014 12:15

I don't really like Brendan or Dermot but I do love Joseph utterly and completely.

I'd have to say Joseph with Dermot as mn (as long as your surname isn't O'Logical).

Your girls names, ummm, I'd have to blindfold myself and stick a pin in, they all seem of a muchness. Even Maeve doesn't excite me.

MakeTeaNotWar · 19/04/2014 12:15

I would have had Meadhbh but got a Tadhg instead!

squoosh · 19/04/2014 17:25

Joseph and Ellen are my favourites.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2014 17:27

Maeve is yummy. Dermot...erm...isn't, sorry.

Bowlersarm · 19/04/2014 17:27

Joseph and Ellen, are lovely.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 19/04/2014 22:19

DH is Brendan , dad Joseph, uncle Dermot !!

LoveVintage · 19/04/2014 22:25

DS1 (14) is Joseph. It is my most favourite boy's name in the world ever.

I love Maeve.

DramaAlpaca · 19/04/2014 23:01

Joseph Brendan or Maeve Ann.

sausageandorangepickle · 19/04/2014 23:07

Dermot makes me think O'Leary, which is a good thing! Joseph is lovely too. I prefer Maeve from your girls names but like Mary too.

Selks · 19/04/2014 23:27

Declan?
