Just got a faint bfp so jumping the gun a bit. Are Christmas names gross? Any suggestions of some so my DH can veto them?

Well, they can be a bit naff if OTT.

Some to think about:

Holly, Noelle, Natalie, Natasha

Noel, Rudolf, Nicholas

MoreSkyThanWeNeed · 10/04/2014 17:16

Chris middle name Mas.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 10/04/2014 17:16

Why are Natalie and Natasha Christmas names? (genuinely interested Smile).

Not Rudolf surely Grin.

Holly is nice. David maybe? (Once In Royal Davids City).

Congratulations on the BFP.

"Why are Natalie and Natasha Christmas names?"

Tradition, and because they mean 'birth'

Ludways · 10/04/2014 17:19

Carol
Christine
Ivy

FlabbyMcTat · 10/04/2014 17:21

I think the nat names are based on natale (birth in italian and similar in spanish). Some fab ideas. Thoughts on holly and ivy?

How about Balthazar, Melchior or Caspar?

Gloria (in excelsis deo)?

Robin?

FlabbyMcTat · 10/04/2014 17:26

Ooh could shorten Balthazar to Balth.
Herod?

I was born at Christmas and have the female form of one of the names mentioned on this thread and nobody gets the connection I also know Hollys and ivys born at other times of the year. Point is, do it if you find a name you like and I agree they are great ones. If my parents had looked into the actual meaning of my name they may have chosen differently as I always prefer the fact that it's festive rather than the fact that it's greek for 'victory for the people'

ClareMandy · 10/04/2014 17:37

I don't think they're gross at all. I myself would have been Holly if I was born around Christmas time. I think holly, Ivy, noel/noelle, robin . All lovely :)

PaulinesPen · 10/04/2014 17:40

Santa

wigglesrock · 10/04/2014 18:01

Stephen is another one.

I quite like names linked to times when babies were born. Dd3 was born around Valentines Day & had she been born on the 14th, I would have shoehorned an appropriate name in somewhere Smile

morethanpotatoprints · 10/04/2014 18:04

Carol, Holly, Nicholas, Rudolph, Robin, Ivy, Belle, Gloria, Noel, Joy.

Theonlyoneiknow · 10/04/2014 18:32

DS was born on Xmas day, he has a non festive name!

mathanxiety · 10/04/2014 19:28

Estelle, Stella, Esther, Seren -- all mean 'star', a Christmas motif.
Lucy, Lucia, Lucien -- all mean 'light', which is a winter and Christian motif.
Clara -- character in the Nutcracker and also linked to the idea of light.
Joseph/Josephine -- link to Christmas.
All variations of Mary..
Seraphine/Seraphina, Gabriel/Gabrielle/Gabriella, Angela, Angelica, Angelina -- angels.
Joshua -- Jesus.
Eve -- Christmas Eve...
Joy -- Joy To The World..
Felix/Felicity -- happy
Celyn -- Welsh 'holly'

Marcipex · 10/04/2014 20:39

Seren, star in Welsh.

hatchypom · 10/04/2014 20:41

Joseph, Mary

Marcipex · 10/04/2014 20:41

Bethany?

Anjou · 11/04/2014 04:25

Not Christmas exactly, but here are some winter themed names...

These all mean 'snow'
Eira (welsh)
Neva (Spanish, pronounced Nay-va)
Lumi (Finnish)
Talini (Inuit for 'snow angel')

Other thoughts for girls

Scarlet
Aurora
Amaryllis
January (if born in that month!)
Wren
Paz (Spanish for 'peace')

For boys...
Frost
Gabriel
Erm .. Can't think of any more! Will come back if I do. Smile

Good luck, OP!

There's some lovely names coming through. My DM was born close to Christmas and has a festive name, her sisters also have names associated with the time of year they were born, I've always thought it was a lovely idea, maybe a bit cutsie but they're all in their 70's now with their own lives and families in different parts of the country, it's a nice way of still linking them together as a sibling group.

Ilovebean · 11/04/2014 13:49

Jesus is pretty 'Christmassy'

On a serious note, I love the name Joseph.

melliebobs · 11/04/2014 13:54
