Wilfred?

What do you think of Wilfred?

DS2 due soon, and Wilfred seems nicely versatile - he could be Will, Wilf, Freddie etc depending on how he feels when he's older.

We have a very short shortlist: Peter (family name, my side), Felix (DH's choice), and Wilfred (which we both like). We both like all three names, tho I'm not 100% convinced on Felix, and Wilfred is a relatively new suggestion.

DS1 is Robin, we have a short one-syllable surname, and DS2 will have two short middle names too.

Thoughts please! Cake

I love the name Robin! - sorry a bit off topic.

My close friend has a little boy called Wilfred, he's very cute. Gets Wilfie or Wilfred at the moment, I like that it's versatile and can sound grown up but also suit a baby.

I also really like Peter though less keen on Felix.

I don't like Wilfred, sounds like an old man.

Peter or Felix are much nicer, prefer Felix of the two.

Nooo, Wilfred Bramble

Lovely!

NadiaWadia · 10/04/2014 16:50

Peter is so much nicer. And classic. Wilfred was thought of as an 'old man' name until very recently (still is by lots of people, inc. me!). Now it seems to be in fashion, but I don't think it will last, so will become dated again. It's not horrible, but doesn't compare to Peter.

CaipirinhasAllRound · 10/04/2014 16:57

I like Peter and quite like Wilfred, not that keen on Felix.
I know of a baby Wilbur which is cute

Thank you all for replying! Thanks

I think Wilfred is a bit of a Marmite name, people seem to love it or hate it.

gertie Grin Tho I prefer Wilfred Toadflax from Brambly Hedge to Wilfred Bramble...

The thing with Peter is that it's already one of DS1's middle names - not sure if that's a bit weird? All the siblings/cousins of my generation have given their first son Peter as a middle name after our Grandad, if I'd known in advance that we'd have a 2nd son we'd have called DS1 Peter and DS2 Robin!

Whhhhyyyyyyy is it so damn hard to think up boys names??!! I can think of hundreds of lovely girls names as easy as pie! Confused

I like Wilfred I love all the old fashioned names. I have a Charlotte, Matilda and will have either Elsie or Jack

Pinkandwhite · 10/04/2014 18:15

I LOVE the name Wilfred! Do it!

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 10/04/2014 18:22

We so nearly went with Wilfred for DS2, but our other two have quite modern-sounding names so we decided against it. I think Will and Wilf are great nicknames.

Oubliette0292 · 10/04/2014 19:44

I love Wilfred (may be biased as DS is called Wilfred).

Other names on our list were: Hugh, Dominic, Ernest, Robert, Isaac and Alec (and these days I like Guy and Laurence too).

clippityclop · 10/04/2014 19:48

My friend has a Wilfred, known as Will. Lovely. So's William come to that. I came across a Rory today too.

Leeds2 · 10/04/2014 19:49

Prefer Peter.

Don't like either Wilfred, or Felix. Prefer Wilf (on the birth certificate) to Wilfred.

BellaVida · 10/04/2014 19:51

I'm afraid Wilfred comes in the same category as Cuthbert for me- not a very strong male name.
