What do you think of Viola?

Good or bad?

I love it and I think it's a wonderful alternative to Violet! My husband likes it too, but says that it might remind people of the musical instrument or worse it might remind them of "violence"...

It can be pronounced vie-O-la, VIE-o-la or VYO-lah. I just LOVE the latter!

I prefer Violet, too many wrong ways to pronounce Viola imho.

Much nicer than Violet but will be pronounced like the instrument by some

No, in Italian, Viola means violet.

Tambourine could be a really nice name! As would Cymbal.

UriGeller · 10/04/2014 13:25

Violette - (Vee-oh-lett) is nicer

Viola is a big violin.

GreatAuntDinah · 10/04/2014 16:03

You could go for Violaine which is a posh French name.

peppinagiro · 11/04/2014 14:10

Feb25 - it depends whether you stick the stress on the 'i' or the 'o'. One way it's violet, the other way it's the 3rd person singular of the verb 'violare'

Prefer Violet

It means rape in Romanian too. My friend warned me off using the name for that reason.

I do love the name, but the above sadly put me off.
