Why must siblings names blend well?

Dc4 will be here in about ten weeks. Every time I mention possible names to people they comment how our current choices don't match/blend with our other kids names (which are plan enough to be fair)

Our current choices are Crea / Willow /Missy for a girl and appearntly she would be too hippyish for her sisters ( Cora and Eva)

Am I missing something? They won't be paired together in every sentence ... Their individual

Ps- I realise that Crea sounds similar to both Cora and Eva when said fast..kind of a mixture of both which is the only thing I don't like about it

Willow is pretty. I always think of willow catkins and delicate green leaves as a welcome sign of spring. I don't think its too hippyish.

I really, really don't want to criticise, and obviously if you love a name you will want to use it, but do you know that 'Crea' in Italian is a traditional name for a butcher/meat-handler/fat man?

It's also part of a Scottish surname, MacRaith/McRea/Macrea, which means 'son of grace'. As used to happen quite a lot in parts of Scotland, the mother's surname was used as a second son's first name, and so Macrea was sometimes used as boy's name.

Willow is perfect, stick with that.

Missy???? Are you being serious? If you are, what about Misty?

Crea is too much of a mouthful with cora and eva.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 07/04/2014 11:45

Why should they blend? They will only be together during childhood, after that they will be independant adults. I don't see it as important that they match.

ikeaismylocal · 07/04/2014 12:32

I think the only slightly hippyish name of those 3 is willow, but I wouldn't assume a child called willow necessarily had lentil weaving parents.

Missy reminds me of 1980s American films, defiantly not hippyish, more like big perm and leather jackets.

Crea doesn't make me think of anything, I havn't heard the name before. I don't think it's any different to cora, infact I think they are very similar.

Willow is a lovely name, I would have thought willow and eve would be a common sibling paring.

Ham69 · 07/04/2014 13:32

People have to stick their oar in! I can't see a problem at all and agree siblings shouldn't have to match. I like Missy!

atthestrokeoftwelve · 07/04/2014 13:34

Who is sticking their oar in?

soontobeslendergirl · 07/04/2014 14:13

I don't see that they don't match anyway - not that they have to I would say anyway.

I thought you were going to say something like Jane, Louise and Consuella or something :)

Bonsoir · 07/04/2014 14:17

I agree with others that Crea is too similar to Cora-Eva (quite apart from any other consideration).

Missy isn't a name - perhaps a nickname, but not the sort of name you want on a birth certificate. Personally I think it is dangerously close to Lola and sounds like something related to a brothel.

Willow is all right.

givemeaclue · 07/04/2014 14:18

Missy is a gangster rapper.

smokeandglitter · 07/04/2014 15:30

I'm not sure why everyone seems to want siblings names to sound good out together, perhaps it's a family vibe thing? I wouldn't want mine to be too similar because I like names to sound different iykwim. Crea and willow are lovely, I like the sound of missy but I'm not sure about it being a child's name, reminds of me 101 Dalmatians (book), which isn't a bad thing but not sure it's suitable for a child - but she's your baby so if you love that name, it's your choice!

soontobeslendergirl · 07/04/2014 15:33

Isn't Missy short for Melissa?

ToffeeJungle · 07/04/2014 17:39

I don't think sibling names should / have to match as such though it would be a little odd if you had something like Faith, Hope and Trevor!

The names you mention sound fine together though but I think Crea is a bit too similar to Cora and Eva.
Missy doesn't seem like a proper name to me (though I did know a cat called this).
Willow is nice enough.

Tranquilitybaby · 07/04/2014 18:12

Willow is lovely, not keen on the others at all I'm afraid x

Sharaluck · 07/04/2014 23:18

I think your choices go nicely with the siblings names.

I would find out the meaning of Crea though! (Never heard of it before)

HoneyandRum · 08/04/2014 07:33

Anyone can do their own thing - I think it's just natural that parents often choose name that seem to belong together and are a "family" of names. It seems to make a statement if you have a name that is dramatically different from the rest of the family. If you had very unusual creative names for all your children and then had one called something very popular and plain it would naturally seem like your thought process had changed.

Orangeisthenewbanana · 08/04/2014 09:12

At the end of the day, you can do whatever you like. I can understand that it might seem a bit odd if you have wildly different styles, say an Edward and then a Phoenix! The names you've mentioned don't sound too different though.

That said, I can't really imagine a 30 year old Missy - that sounds more like a nickname. Crea sounded made up to me! How about Thea?

OwlCapone · 08/04/2014 09:24

Missy is truly awful and Crea looks like you have left had the name off. Why would you do that to a person? I like Willow but always worry what happens if Willow turns out to be more of a sturdy oak.

Your other DDs have lovely names, don't blow it with the third!

IMO, siblings should have names which don't sound odd together. if you have one DD called Seraphina, a sister called Doris would just seem wrong. As would brothers Ptolemy and Kevin. They don't need to match as such, but names of a similar "feel" are a good idea.

WhoAteAllTheCremeEggs · 08/04/2014 09:32

I don't think it matters at all.
I also think Missy is a nice name.
Congratulations on a new dd. Smile

Mrspedro · 08/04/2014 10:03

Crea is Irish (comes from heart)
