Expecting DS in two weeks. We have decided on the name but not the spelling. For a boy do you prefer Sacha or Sasha?

For a boy, I think Sacha.

Vijac · 07/04/2014 00:02

Sacha for a boy, or Sascha.

stonehairbrush · 07/04/2014 00:03

This might help OP Smile www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/a1458064-Sasha-or-Sacha

FrumiousBandersnatch · 07/04/2014 00:03

Sacha is more obviously male. A lot of people might assume that Sasha was a girl if they aren't familiar with Russian names.

OutingMyselfToday · 07/04/2014 00:31

I prefer Sascha but if I had to choose one of your spellings then it would be Sacha.

smokeandglitter · 07/04/2014 16:12

Sacha = boy to me and Sasha = girl.

smokeandglitter · 07/04/2014 16:13

I know that's not right but just what my mind gets when it sees the name written.

Stat · 07/04/2014 17:55

I prefer the spelling Sascha. I like both Sasha and Sacha equally.

As far as I know, Sascha is the German spelling, Sacha is the French spelling, and Sasha is the usual Russian transliteration. If I had any ties to any of those, I'd probably choose based on that.

mathanxiety · 07/04/2014 18:01

I would go with the more German spelling.

I think Sacha might end up losing the SH sound in favour of the CH of CHeese, whereas Sasha looks to my eye more like a girl's name (and I think this is the spelling used by Sasha Obama).

Tranquilitybaby · 07/04/2014 18:10

Sacha

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 07/04/2014 18:13

Stat Sacha is the french spelling for boys, Sasha for girls
I don't tink it matters in english

rachel234 · 07/04/2014 21:15

Sascha = German boys name

Sacha = French boys name ( French say ch as sh like chat). Wouldn't use this in English.

Sasha = English spelling.

Lovely name btw! Really like it for a boy.

NotRicksWife · 27/04/2014 16:09

Thank you for your advice. Now debating Sacha and Sascha. 40+1 and no sign of the little one yet so we still have time.

HaroldLloyd · 27/04/2014 16:11

I would use Sacha as a boy.

deepinthewoods · 27/04/2014 16:28

I have a son we call Sasha. It is a diminutive or nickname of Alexander ( which is his birth name). By calling a child Alexander you have lots of possibilties- Alex, Xander, Zander, Aleandro, Sasha or Sacha, Sandy.

If you name him Alexander you can keep your - and his options open. I think it's a lovely strong name.

Catflap1 · 27/04/2014 17:59

Sacha for a boy i think, though personally I see this as a girls name, maybe because in my experiance have only heard it for female dogs. It is a nice name though

Bluestocking · 27/04/2014 18:01

I know two - a British boy called Sacha and a Ukrainian (with Russian-speaking parents) called Sasha. So I think either would be fine, and neither is more obviously "male" than the other.

meditrina · 27/04/2014 18:08

There are three boys with this name in classes with my DC. All are of Russian background and all spell it Sasha.

LynetteScavo · 27/04/2014 18:28

Got a boy, Sacha.

sonniebonnie · 28/04/2014 20:30

Sasha definitately. Sacha is the French spelling.

sonniebonnie · 28/04/2014 20:32

In Germany it is spellt Sascha and is only a boys name.
