Is the name jack posh or chavvy? Sorry couldn't think of better words to use- gave birth yesterday and slightly sleep deprived! Opinions please! X

Congratulations!

It's neither. It's a straightforward classic (albeit extremely popular for the last 10 years or so) and therefore as ubiquitous as Matthew, Sarah, John etc. in my opinion.

Enjoy your new wee baby boy!

Congrats on your new baby! I personally don't like Jack as every 3rd child I meet that isn't named Isabella is named Jack. But apart from being absurdly popular, it is actually a nice name. Please steer clear of variants like Jackson...hate that name!

Jack is an everyman name, that's the main thing in its favour. Aside from that I'm afraid I think it's way overused.

I wouldn't call it a classic as it was virtually unheard of on people under 60 till 15 years or so ago.

Congratulations on your new son!

Definitely neither posh or "chavvy" - completely "classless" for want of a better term!

Congrats on your lovely newborn btw. Let us know what you decide to call him! Smile

I think it's more working class than "posh" but not in a chavvy way. It is very common (as in used a lot). It's not a given name though, is it? Although I accept it has become one, it's really a nickname for John.
