Corran...would you think it was a boys/girls name. Does it sound like an odd name?

For a boy? (for any star wars fans...we would not be giving him the middle name of Horn as well).

Thoughts?

Do you know any Corrans?

Corran is a splendid name, however:

Corin - from the Latin Quirinus - means spear or spear-carrier.

The Scottish Gaelic word Corran means 'crescent' or 'curved' and is a well-known place name, sometimes now used as a personal name:

Apologies - really did not mean that last message to sound critical or rude. Was just trying to explain what the Gaelic word Corran meant....

I know a girl who spells it Coran which I think is really nice :)

Corran 100% looks like a boys name but I do know a girl called Corinne and I imagine they sound similar!

I'm a female Corran.

I like that people assume I'm male when they hear my name then get a surprise when they see a very femenine girl.
I don't think names should be gender specific. My male dog is called Hati.

It's pretty easy to get used to 'unusual' names and they help avoid confusion.

I do have to spell it out to people, but I'm not so busy that I can't find the time to say C-O- double R- A-N.

the best thing about having an unusual name is that you can spot the idiots who can't handle unusual names as soon as you meet them.

The only corin i know is female.

I didn't have a clue it's a "boys" name.

cheekyfunkymonkey · 13/12/2016 16:39

Never heard of it but I would assume boys name

Sophronia · 13/12/2016 18:31

I much prefer Corin

HoratioNightboy · 13/12/2016 18:51

As others have pointed out, it is a recent but fairly well-known name in Scotland, with origins as described by florascotia.

First used for girls in 1961, then for boys since 1988, so pretty much accepted as a unisex name.

Sorry, reminds me of 'The Koran' Grin

Gruffalosfriend · 13/12/2016 22:25

Corran is a great and strong sounding boys name. I really like it.

The girls name Corinne is pronounced very differently, with the emphasis on the INNE.

I'm in Edinburgh and know of a couple of Corran's - aged around 10. I like it and don't think it's too unusual here.
