What do you think of Roderick?

I feel like I must be missing something- it's a recognisable name, so not too 'out there' but never gets mentioned. Roddie as NN quite cute (imho) and I can't think of any negative connotations? (although I dislike Rod Stewart...would that immediately come to mind?) Judge Roderick Blah works doesn't it Wink Would you th associate with being Scottish? Any thoughts gratefully received.

I think it's very dated and unattractive. Sorry because I don't want to be rude, but you did ask.

Viviennemary · 03/04/2014 12:43

Rod Stewart wouldn't come to my mind at all. Not so keen on Roderick but quite like Roddy as a shortform.

RufusTheReindeer · 03/04/2014 12:47

Sorry first thought was Rodney and my second was Woderwick

But only fools and horses is an old show so maybe less people would made that connection, and it is a nice name

Roddy is sweet but Rod not so much

ceeveebee · 03/04/2014 13:42

It's clearly a marmite name- I still love it anyway!

fideline · 03/04/2014 13:45

Wewease Wodewick here too, i'm afraid.

I went to school with quite a few roddy's. They were never called rod. I don't much like it though.

Pollaidh · 03/04/2014 13:49

Let's hope he can pronounce his 'r's otherwise it's a lifetime of 'wodewick'. It's got 2 rs so even worse than other 'r' names like Reggie, although that would be 'wedgy' Grin. Life of Brian for me too I'm afraid.

DramaAlpaca · 03/04/2014 15:20

I used to work with a Roderick who was always known as Rory.

I like Rory, but not Roderick.

I'd also immediately think "welease wodewick"

AreYouFeelingLucky · 03/04/2014 15:28

I thought Rod Stewart, and then Welease Wodewick.

jinglebitch · 03/04/2014 18:35

Thanks for opinions! Don't worry if you were not impressed- I am the most judgey person I know about names and know I have 'unusual' taste! In a way I do want to be put off, as DH doesn't want it- is the me of his closest work colleagues husband, but there's really nothing I even vaguely like at the moment. Just better be another girl! (also, was listening to a radio thing about Roddy Doyle that gave me the idea, would definitely have tried to stick with Roddy)

Roden (nickname Roddy) is a Celtic name that means strong.

Rhodri is Welsh...

TheBigBumTheory · 03/04/2014 18:47

I didn't think of it as Scottish but there again I am Scottish.Grin

Great name.

Nataleejah · 03/04/2014 20:22

firstchoice · 03/04/2014 22:40

Like Roddy
Like Rodders
Like Rod (less so)

mrsjavierbardem · 03/04/2014 22:48

Sorry but the first thing I would think like others is : "Wewease Wodewick!"

Lesleythegiraffe · 03/04/2014 22:51

Unusual these days, but a nice name.

bochead · 03/04/2014 23:12

I went out with a Rod for years in my 20's - fantastic bloke. Only his Mum called him Roderick though. (sorry but I've never met a nigel that wasn't smarmy).
