Jack or Rory?

Hello, I would be grateful of your opinions- due ds 2 in 4 weeks and can't decide between the two names. I love the name jack but it's been so popular for so long which puts me off a bit ( although I know no jacks!). I want a strong boys name which won't hold them back in the future. Oh ds1 is Charlie. Thanks in advance!

Charlie and Jack
Charlie and Rory

I personally think Jack works better with Charlie and I love the name too!

Theonlyoneiknow · 31/03/2014 12:21

I love both (know lots of Rorys but no Jacks!)

I think Jack goes better with Charlie

Chacha23 · 31/03/2014 12:22

Jack - much prefer it to Rory. And if you love it, go for it :-)

(I also don't know any Jacks, btw)

runningonwillpower · 31/03/2014 12:27

I'm not keen on Rory. Cos when my boy was little he had a book with Rory the lion. I know, a play on the name but it put me off.

I do like Jack.

TessOfTheBaublevilles · 31/03/2014 12:38

I think Jack is the better fit with Charlie.

My DS1 (14) is Jack, so I used it at the height of its popularity, and people were saying, "he'll be one of many at school."

In all his years of school, he has only come across TWO other Jacks at school, one of them was older and left, meaning there was only him and one other Jack. And this was an all-boys school with about 400 pupils. (There were far more boys called Oliver and Harry at my son's old school).

Yes the name is popular, but at the end of the day, I'm not bothered about how many other boys are named Jack, the only Jack that matters is mine and I wouldn't have him with any other name.

CountessOfRule · 31/03/2014 13:12

I really like Rory, but it's a bit rhymey with Charlie. Jack is a much better fit.

I used to know twins called Jack and Rory.

stuckindamiddle · 31/03/2014 13:14

Jack and Rory sounds like Jackanory?Smile

squoosh · 31/03/2014 13:45

I don't like the name Jack, find it very boring, even though it 'goes' better I'd still pick Rory.

Emma028 · 31/03/2014 15:19

I think Rory and Charlie sound lovely together actually! I know lots of Jacks, but only one Rory and I think it is a great name which will not hold him back in life at all.

DramaAlpaca · 31/03/2014 15:34

I prefer Rory.

DiamondsAndRust · 31/03/2014 16:10

Out of the two I much prefer Rory, but Jack goes much better with Charlie. Charlie and Rory sounds too cutesy/sing-songy.

Anotheronesoon · 31/03/2014 16:59

Thanks for your opinions- still none the wiser though! Why is naming children so hard?!?!?!

HopelessDei · 01/04/2014 00:14

Rory bothers me. What if the child has trouble with his "r"s?

aGirlDownUnder1 · 01/04/2014 04:16

I really like Rory, it was going to be dd name if she was a boy. Jack is nice but it's so overused, it's just boring and 'meh' IMO.

looki · 01/04/2014 16:12

I prefer Rory. Jack isn't very nice sounding tbh and is a bit meh. Much prefer James or Johnny etc

ToffeeJungle · 02/04/2014 09:28

Definitely Jack.

SummerScoop · 02/04/2014 16:16

Jack sounds better with Charlie. Also biased as i have a Jack, who likes his name as it's nice and short!

Polkadotscarf · 04/04/2014 06:12

Would deffo go with Rory, I work in a small school and there are so many jacks! It's a very common name (common as in popular!)

nooka · 04/04/2014 06:43

Rory makes me think of the irritating bugger who wouldn't stay dead in the last Dr Who series. I'd rather do for Captain Jack Grin

Agree with others that Charlie and Rory sound a bit matchy.

LePetitPont · 04/04/2014 08:14

I know two baby Jacks, like Jack and Charlie as a sibset.

I really like Rory, but like nooka, my DH said it made him think of the rubbish lad of Dr Who.

kaatieexox · 04/04/2014 08:26

Jack and Charlie sound good together. I have a 10 week old Jack and he is the only one I know!

pilates · 04/04/2014 19:23

Def Jack, one of my favourite names, suits all ages.

nichib83 · 05/04/2014 10:43

Rory!!! It's much less common (and it's my middle son's name ;) ) and it's a proper, good strong name that suits a child and a man X
