Rosie Lea or Bonnie Lea

LuckyOwl28 · 29/03/2014 22:04

The Lea is pronounced 'Lee' and is after my best friend so can't change.

We have a little girl called Bethany so quite like the idea of two B's...

Although our surname is a little like Wright and think Rosie Wright has a nice ring to it.

Opinions please Grin

You do know Rosie Lea / lee is tea in cockney?

snice · 29/03/2014 22:07

IN the immortal words of John McEnroe-you cannot be serious

You CANT call a child Rosie Lea

LuckyOwl28 · 29/03/2014 22:08

Yes my husband mentioned that, don't think it would put me off though.

Bethany means 'house of figs', so her sister may as well be a nice brew Wink

You can't call a baby something that's going to be pronounced Rosie Lee. Unless you then provide her with a sister called Ruby Murray and a brother called Hampton Wick.

Sharaluck · 29/03/2014 22:10

Bonnie Lea

Although I think it might be better to add a second middle name as Lea seems incomplete (and I know you can't change it).

DramaAlpaca · 29/03/2014 22:11

Of the two I'd have to go with Bonnie for the reason others have said.

Even though I much prefer Rosie.

LuckyOwl28 · 29/03/2014 22:12

lol

I can't say i'm fluent in cockney rhyming slang so your references are wasted on me bluestocking Smile

Yes it really must put you off as it's beyond stupid to call your kid Rosie Lee

Go with Bonnie or something nice

BellaOfTheBalls · 29/03/2014 22:13

Please don't call your child Rosie Lea. She will hate you forever. Take it from one who knows and has experienced these things.

Bonnie Lea is marginally nicer. Actually Rosie and Bonnie are both lovely, it's the Lea bit I don't like.

stackablegoatbearingcheesecake · 29/03/2014 22:13

I don't like two given names that end with the same sound. It doesn't work for me at all.

In your place I'd go with the Lea and give a totally different second name.

scarletforya · 29/03/2014 22:14

You can't call a child that. The tea jokes will drive her mad.

BellaOfTheBalls · 29/03/2014 22:14

Sorry, didn't see that the Lea bit can't be changed.

Go with Bonnie. Please.

Realitybitesyourbum · 29/03/2014 22:17

You night not be up on cockney slang but there are few in this country i would be willing to wager that don't know the Rosie lee reference. You may not care but your child certainly will . Don't be selfish

MargotLovedTom · 29/03/2014 22:19

Would you actually call her Rosie on a day to day basis, rather than the full Rosie Lea? If so then you could maybe call her Rosalind Lea in full for official forms etc, to get away from the 'nice cuppa Rosie Lee' connotations, but she'd be known as Rosie.

SirChenjin · 29/03/2014 22:22

Tea (I live in Edinburgh, even I've bloody heard the tea reference)

or

Gypsy Rose Lee, that famous burlesque entertainer.

Bonnie Lea is marginally better, but the Bonnie Lee Bakley connotations aren't great either.

saintmerryweather · 29/03/2014 22:30

Apart from rosie lee being silly, I would pronounce Lea as Leah if I saw that written down

morethanpotatoprints · 29/03/2014 22:35

There were two very famous Rose lee's, both Gypsys

One was a stripper
The other was a palm reader (read Queen Victoria's) and is my ancestor Grin

crypes · 29/03/2014 22:36

What about Rosalie instead?

Floggingmolly · 29/03/2014 22:40

Lea is not pronounced Lee. Lee is pronounced Lee. To the rest of the population, you understand...

DavidHarewoodsFloozy · 29/03/2014 22:41

Might as well call her Bonnie Ronnie Lea tbh. I love Bethany, and Rose is nice.

Delphiniumsblue · 29/03/2014 22:43

You can't set the poor child up for a lifetime of tea jokes.
I would go for Rosalie and then you are using it. I don't like Bonnie.

SirChenjin · 29/03/2014 22:44

Wow potato - now that's an ancestor worth having! Grin

Blu · 29/03/2014 22:46

Another 'no' to Rosie Lea.
Really.

Pregnantberry · 29/03/2014 22:49

Rosie Lea sounds like you picked her name as a cheap/stupid joke, sorry.

Artandco · 29/03/2014 22:50

I would also go for rosalie. Then you have used 'lee' and can use Rosie as a nickname.

Rosalie Bonnie ?
