Celia or Cecilia?

I already have 2 boys, Henry and James (Jamie)

What do you think of the names? I have always liked Celia after my godmother who I am still extremely close to, but do you think it will potentially rise in popularity over the next few years?

I think Cecila is equally as pretty but DH think's the second C is superfluous! Says it just makes sound strange haha

I love Cecilia. It was on my shortlist of three when DD was born but she looked blank when I tried it out on her so now she's something totally different!

I prefer Celia, I agree with your dh.

Both lovely but Cecilia sounds better IMO.

Cecilia is the patron saint of music, she is the subject of many beautiful renaissance and baroque paintings. Would be fun to play 'Spot Cecilia' when you're in an art gallery. Cece is such a cool nickname.

Celia is the secretary of the local branch of her WI, she's looks very doughy and benign but would think nothing of putting arsenic in her rival's damson jam to ensure she gets the blue ribbon at the village fete. Not so many beautiful paintings of Celia.

No offence intended to your godmother Celia who I'm sure is lovely and would rarely never consider poisoning anyone!

Cecilia is much nicer. The second c changes the sound of the first syllable and adds a second, changing the name significantly, hardly superfluous, rather very altering and different.

I much prefer the sound of the Ce in Cecilia to the Ce in Celia. The first is nicely balanced, the second risks sounding drawly and 'Ceel-ya' sounds like 'see ya' to me.

Celia also makes me think of coele - biological term for cavity. Not flattering when you look up some of the compound words that include it.

We considered Cecilia if DS had been a girl, but were a bit put off by my sister singing the Simon and Garfunkel / Suggs song when I mentioned it to her. I think it's a beautiful name though. I also love Cecily. Not as keen on Celia, although it is still pretty.

Ignoring the animal, I loved Gerald Durrell's name for his praying mantis; Cicely. Oh sod it I'm late to the party again...

Of your two I find Cecilia a little twee, although she is patron saint of music. Celia is OK, but a little bit snooty, middle class woman.

Actually not quite... Cecily to me is SESS-illy, whereas Cicely SISS-selly... which I prefer.

Both lovely but cecilia will get you a lot of Simon and garfunkel singing in the beginning. I think it is very pretty though
