Read the name Fenella in a book and like the way it looks and sounds. What do you all think?

If you like it that's all that matters really.

( I like it too if you need reassurance).

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 24/03/2014 22:13

Wasn't there a kids tv presenter called this back in the mists of time when I were a lass day?
Bit jolly hockey sticks prefect voice-y for my taste, but nice enough.

NigellasDealer · 24/03/2014 22:13

it is a lovely name

mrsbug · 24/03/2014 22:15

She was the witch in Chorlton and the wheelies.

I know a lovely Fenella so I like it

MissFenella · 24/03/2014 22:16

It is a super name

Bert2e · 24/03/2014 22:16

Fenella Fudge - BBC radio 2 newsreader!

PollyCazaletWannabe · 24/03/2014 22:17

For some reason, in my mind, it's linked to the name Miranda. Was there a book with two characters called Fenella and Miranda? (Also love Miranda but wouldn't use it at mo as Miranda Hart is waaaaaay too popular)

Chorlton and the wheelies welsh witch.

But it won't be known for that among people, say, 35 and younger.

morethanpotatoprints · 24/03/2014 22:19

I met one for the first time this year.
She's a pre teen and quite quirky. It's different but I'm not sure how popular.

PollyCazaletWannabe · 24/03/2014 22:19

I am 34 and have never heard of chorlton and the wheelies!

Have you been reading Riders? Grin It's a lovely name and I liked the character too.

mrsbug · 24/03/2014 22:29

OK curly, I'm 35 Grin

Emubaby · 24/03/2014 22:30

I know one, she's 18 months and is generally called Nelly. I really like it now, it's grown on me!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 24/03/2014 22:36

Ok, under 35 then. Grin

I quite like it. But it does sounds a bit posh.

PollyCazaletWannabe · 24/03/2014 22:45

Oh yes- she would get called Nelly. :( I don't like that.

NigellasDealer · 24/03/2014 22:47

no my friend Fenella never got called Nelly, she was Fen

LineRunner · 24/03/2014 22:48

Yes, the nickname for Fenella is Fen.

PollyCazaletWannabe · 24/03/2014 22:48

I don't mind Nell but not Nelly. Fen is nice for an adult.

Or isn't there a "Fenny" in one of Douglas Adams's books (but iirc she was named after her place of conception: Fenchurch St station)

PollyCazaletWannabe · 24/03/2014 22:54

Fenny is OK. Tbh I don't like planning nicknames- I think they just naturally evolve.

LineRunner · 24/03/2014 22:55

Yes, I think Arthur Dent was disappointed to think she was called something as daft as Fenella but then warmed to the idea of Fenchurch.

ecuse · 24/03/2014 23:06

Ugh. Jolly hockey sticks, Sloaney and a bit dim.

LineRunner · 24/03/2014 23:11

I think Arthur Dent was wrong, mind you. On this and a number of other things.

Theimpossiblegirl · 24/03/2014 23:16

I like it, but I also like Fionnuala or Fern as alternatives.

NormHonal · 24/03/2014 23:21

Bit gutted that I am not the first to make the Chorlton and the Wheelies connection!

[old gimmer emoticon]

It sounds posh to me too.
