What do you think of this little girls' name?

Vera? I am due end of May and had not even considered it but I was watching a movie with Vera Farmiga last night and it just jumped out at me. I've been quite a fan of her's anyway for a while but had never really thought about her name. My friend asked me what the name of the actress is so I replied and as soon as I did I thought "wow...Vera!" and my hubby agreed.

Any thoughts? Middle name would almost definitely be Kate or Katherine.

But I like these 'granny chic' names.

DorothyBastard · 23/03/2014 13:50

I really like it

PuppyMonkey · 23/03/2014 13:55

It's about as "granny chic" as Sheila or Beryl IMHO. Maud is also crap.

ThursdayLast · 23/03/2014 14:09

I like Beryl too Grin
Not Sheila so much though

PipkinsPal · 23/03/2014 14:13

I had an Auntie Vera too. She was lovely and really tiny (says me a gigantic 5ft) but had a big personality.

Wishfulmakeupping · 23/03/2014 14:16

I love a good old Grandma name Elsie and Dorothy were both on my list for my dd but for me Vera is just a step too far

LemonLavender · 23/03/2014 14:26

Not bad - think it would grow on me tbh.

Certainly beats Beryl and Muriel.

I had Barbara on my short list - DH really really wanted it and I was dithering a little. It did tend to have the drawn in breath response when we said to anyone we were thinking of calling DD Barbara.

I think Vera is a bit like that - some people will be aghast and others quite like it.

If you like it then go for it. Smile

I don't like the idea of middle name = Kate.

VeraKate sounds like a verb (and a rude one at that!) Grin

Pinkcustardpurplecustard · 23/03/2014 16:31

Like it. There's also pearl, Maude, Ada

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2014 16:47

Don't like it at all, sorry. It sounds very harsh to me.

Even though I had a Great Aunt Vera who was lovely

Mireio · 23/03/2014 18:14

I really like it. Vera Katherine would be lovely.

Ciwti · 23/03/2014 18:25

I like Verity, but Vera isn't my thing.

tethersend · 23/03/2014 18:29

I like it.

Actually, I don't like most of the old lady names and had mentally automatically put Vera in this category because I had a great aunt called it (known as V), but stripped of those associations I think it's actually quite pretty. Which is more that I can say for Maud, Enid or Ethel... Much prefer Verity though, as a pp said.

RabbitPies · 23/03/2014 18:53

It's ugly.
