If I vaguely like... What else might I like?

Hello, currently expecting our second child and really struggling to think of boy's names. We won't be finding out the sex, but already thinking about names as we really struggled to think of a boy's name for our first child. Thankfully, she's a girl! But once again, we can't seem to think of or find any names that we really like for a boy. We've got lots for girls so that shouldn't be an issue.

We both like: Rowan or Torben but I don't love either.

I like: Tobin, Eben, Larkin, Sage or Gideon, but my partner doesn't really like them.

He likes: Edmund, Hilary (?!), Torsten - I don't like any of them...

We both really like Jaspar, but my parents used it for their dog...

Our daughter has a very unusual name with origins in Old English; we both quite like Scandi sounding names, but I'm worried about giving a name with those origins as we have no connection to it whatsoever. Added to this, I used to be a teacher so can veto virtually any name with the flimsiest of reasons.

It's hopeless, isn't it?!

We both quite like Torren and Tor from those suggestions. I like Asa, but DP just keeps saying it'd sound liked we'd named a child after our laptop (Acer)! Elvin is pretty cool, but it's very, very similar to our niece's name (also an unusual girl's name).

Tenzing is not happening... no way...! He's convinced we should use some kind of explorer name, hence the Edmund, Hilary and Tenzing suggestions.

Can anyone suggest any more natural names? I'm sorry SimplySara I don't like any of the ones you suggested; they're a little too 'American cowboy' or 'gruff male' sounding to my ear.

George Osborne has ruined Gideon for me (though those wretched Bible people had a good go as we'll)...

MrsTilapia · 22/03/2014 14:04

Oh I'm definitely not sure about Erland - we've got ages to go yet, so I'm sure I'll change my mind! It's just helping to feel a bit more excited and less apprehensive about having two relatively close together. I don't mind about having an old-fashioned name - DP is trying to convince me of Myrtle if it's a girl, so Erland wouldn't be too old fogey.

CarrotIron - is it the one that also means a badger's home?!

I don't mind the sound of Lucian, but somehow it doesn't sound right with our daughter's name. Too many 'S' sounds going on.

Yes, it is(except I thought otter)! Both my children have two syllables in their names, if that's any help.

It is otter! Not sure why I put badger!

Partner loves Scott; I hate it. Think we're coming back round to Rowan, despite the woody connotations.

Rowan is a really lovely name, it is my brother's name and if dc2 is a boy it will be his middle name.

When is your due date? My brother was born in the autumn and the baby I'm pregnant with at the moment is also going to be an autumn baby, my mum said she loves looking at the rown trees heavy with berries just before d-bro was born.
