Is this a common theme for middle names?

Me and DH are having our first baby tomorrow (via CS) and still haven't fully decided on a name Smile

We were discussing middle names though and asked him what he thought about one of the middle names (we have decided on one of them) as being the same as DH's first name.

Is this still commonly done?

DH was a bit unsure but I thought it was a really popular choice for middle names of boys, to give them their dad's name?

Arran John Benjamin has too many n's

Grin

That made me laugh - that's exactly the kind of random thing I would say and think and obsess over Grin

Another thought would be a name from your mum's side of the family?

All the men on my mom's side of the family are pretty horrible people unfortunately - but at least it makes the decision making easier Grin

My DS has DH's name as one of his middle names and my DGF's as the other. His first name has absolutely no family connection at all.

My nephew has his dads name as a middle name Smile

All of my dc have their grandparents names as middle names. We have a Michael, Anne, Alexander and this baby due in 10 days will be Christopher (male version of Christine after my mum who died 18 months ago).

Dd has my middle name as hers. I actually wasn't keen and can't help but feel it's a bit narcissistic (it's not a family name or tradition) but dh insisted.

I think one name from each grandparent is nice and Michael John flows better to me.

If the men aren't great, how about any unisex names or surnames from the women in your mum's family?

I would always choose the name of someone special in our family as a middle name. Ds has my brothers name. Ds2 is going to have my dh's brothers name. A girl would have his late grandmother's name. I think it is a nice idea.

GreggsOnLegs · 20/03/2014 20:13

Ds1 and dh have the same middle name, it was dh's choice. I wasn't so keen but compromised as I chose his first name.
Arran John Benjamin gets my vote.
