Joseph, Adam or Dominic? Which would you choose?

Context: we live in France (DH is French). We want a name that is spelt the same in both languages. None of the names are top 50 in France. This is DS2.

Joseph - my dream name since I was a little girl. But I'm afraid it might be because I was heavily influenced by my parents, who would have chosen this name if they had had a boy (it's my Grandad's name). DH really likes it but worries that it's a bit serious (from a French point of view).

Adam - love the name, but really don't like how it's pronounced in French ('Ah-Dom') which makes me hesitate as I'll always hear it in French except when it's me saying it!

Dominic - nice strong name and goes really well with our surname. My only hesitation is that I don't like 'Dom' or 'Nick' as a diminuitive. DS1 also has a 3 syllable name and I always call him by the diminuitive, I can't see myself using the full name all the time.

I like all 3, but think I like Joseph the most.

BlueStarsAtNight · 17/03/2014 13:33

I would definitely go Joseph. I has nice nn's and sounds good in a French accent. Not keen on Dominic. I really like Adam but if you don't like the French pronunciation then definitely avoid it.

CPtart · 17/03/2014 14:27

I like all three, particularly Adam as I have one!

Sundaedelight · 17/03/2014 14:51

Dominic.

beela · 17/03/2014 14:56

Joseph (biased)

Mireio · 17/03/2014 15:49

How about Nico as a nickname for Dominic?

My favourite of the three is Joseph.

DramaAlpaca · 17/03/2014 15:52

Joseph is my favourite.

Joseph - lovely name andvfamily meaning

LargeBustedMamma · 17/03/2014 20:18

Joseph!

Go for it and don't look back.

LongWayRound · 17/03/2014 20:25

Of the three, I reckon Joseph is the one which sounds best in a French accent.

herecomesthsun · 17/03/2014 20:37

Adam

99redbafoons · 17/03/2014 20:41

Joseph! It's a brilliant name definitely not biased and suits all ages!

Trojanhouse · 17/03/2014 20:46

Joseph or Dominic

mathanxiety · 18/03/2014 03:22

Joseph and Dominic are equally lovely imo. If I had had another boy I would have loved to use one or other or maybe even both of those names.

Adam is a bit wishy washy to my ear.

Chloerose75 · 18/03/2014 03:56

Joseph! Though I really like all of them. Good taste.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 18/03/2014 04:11

Joseph 100%

SizzlesSit · 18/03/2014 08:58

Thanks for all the opinions! Loving the child who called himself "Zofess", so cute!

Am feeling a strong leaning towards Joseph on this thread Smile

Last time by this stage (32 weeks) we both had a favourite name (that the other also liked) and decided we'd choose at the birth. This time I'm leaning strongly towards Joseph but DH hasn't got a particular favourite. I might win this one Wink

We need to choose quickly though as I was reminded yesterday that we have to declare the birth within 3 days (including weekends) or get fined 2300 euros and not be able to declare the birth for a year! (so no passport/creche/medical reimbursements...). Pressure!

Joseph

HopelessDei · 19/03/2014 17:44

Love Dominic.

RoganJosh · 19/03/2014 17:47

I'd go for Adam.
I love Dominic but am not so keen on Dom. Same with Joseph and Joe. Boys' names do tend to get shortened.

Montsti · 19/03/2014 18:13

I like Dominic best - nn Nico??

I also like Joseph. Find Adam a bit dull.

bigkidsdidit · 19/03/2014 18:38

I have a Joseph, I call him Joey but ds1 calls him Doph, he can't say it properly. Everyone loves his name. I am very happy with it :)
