April is lovely

BlackberryandNettle · 16/03/2014 20:45

Sammy Ann reminds me of the Sally Ann (Salvation Army)!

I agree having two middle names sounds nicer and still honours your friend.

April is really nice. I would use it for an April baby only but on the other hand look at the millions of something Mays not born in May.

Would you consider Ariel?

As someone often called 'Sammy' (to my annoyance) I beg you not to call her that!

AmysTiara · 16/03/2014 21:01

April is lovely. Who cares what month she is born in. Sammy is not so nice.

Mireio · 16/03/2014 23:20

April. Sammy is awful on a girl.

BackforGood · 16/03/2014 23:30

Not keen on 'AA' being a person's initials, myself.

sleepingbeautiful · 17/03/2014 06:13

April is nice.
Sammy on it's own sounds odd. What about Samantha, Samia or Samara instead?

badtime · 17/03/2014 07:53

'Sammy Ann' makes me think of the Psammead from Five Children & It.

Frontdoorstep · 17/03/2014 18:33

April is lovely, I quite like Sammy too actually but April is just about my favourite girls name.

Elllimam · 17/03/2014 18:37

Agree with Blueberry that Ann sounds nicer as a second middle name xx

Onesleeptillwembley · 17/03/2014 18:42

Sammy is awful. Don't.

PenguinsEatSpinach · 17/03/2014 19:03

Definitely April Ann. I don't think it matters if she isn't born in April.

Samantha Ann is fine too. But to be honest Sammy Ann sounds a bit 'bible belt America' to me. Which, assuming you aren't so there isn't a cultural link, isn't my personal taste in names. You know, Sammy Ann, Tammy Lee, that type of thing.

Two middle names would be nice too: April Elizabeth Ann, etc.

manicinsomniac · 18/03/2014 12:12

I like both April and Samantha but not Sammy.

I prefer April to Samantha but think Samantha Ann sounds better than April Ann (not really an issue if you're rarely using the middle name though).

April Samantha Ann is lovely (or even April Sammy Ann if you really like Sammy)

honeybeeridiculous · 20/03/2014 08:27

April is lovely,
Iv got a friend June who was born in April Smile don't think it matters when she is born tbh, good luck

sooperdooper · 21/03/2014 23:20

I'm not a fan of Sammy as the given name, I'd prefer Samantha and use Sammy as a nn, which is what it is

April is nice and I wouldn't be bothered which month she was actually born in, but I'm not keen on it with Ann as the middle name

mathanxiety · 22/03/2014 19:35

I don't like Sammy or April.

I knew an April who rejoiced [not] in the nn of Ape.

LittleMissLurksALot · 26/03/2014 16:54

I prefer April, or Samantha over Sammy.

Out of curiosity, is it going to be a case of "April" (Or "Sammy") on a day to day basis but with Ann as a middle name on the BC, or will her name be "April Ann" used in a similar way to a double barrel?

I know a few people that have Ann as a middle name and it is used as part of their first name even though it isn't hyphenated. Their names tend to bleed into each other as they end with ys, so it ends up being "Name Yan" rather than "Name [pause] Ann" (if that makes any sense!) which I think you'd risk with Sammy. If she ever tried to say her name quickly is could sound like "Sammyan Minieggs" rather than "Sammy Ann Minieggs"!

LittleMissLurksALot · 26/03/2014 16:55

*it could...not is could Angry

Artandco · 26/03/2014 17:06

Could you use Annabelle/ Annabel?

And if you don't actually like it but using in memory I would add another name in between ie:

April Samia Annabelle
April Samantha Annabel

What about Samia ( Sam -ey -a)/ samara. Nn sammy

MoelFammau · 31/03/2014 22:47

Love April Ann. I actually wouldn't use April if she was born in April - kind of feels a bit unimaginative that way. And really, her birthday is hardly going to be part of her introduction - 'hello, this is April, she was born in May'.
