Help meeeeee - boy's names.

I've posted here before, but we are no closer for coming up with a boy's name. DC2 is due in a month and we don't know whether it is a boy or a girl.

We have a shortlist for a boy, but they all seem to have a slight problem with them:
Arthur (but this is the name of DS's best friend - I know this won't be for ever but don't want to confuse DS)
Thomas (but this is the name of DS's teddy bear!)
William (but would this get shortened to Willy?)
Edward (but this is DH's nephew's name so we can't use that)
Archie (but don't like Archibald)
Idris (possibly too Welsh for someone who doesn't actually live in Wales?)
Emlyn (ditto)

I also quite like James or Benedict, but DH doesn't.

I thought it was looking quite royal, so thought about other royal names, but not keen on George or Charles, and Harry/Henry is very popular.

So - any thoughts on our shortlist? or any contenders to add to it?

Thank you for the reassurances re. Thomas and William. I also like the suggestions of Albert and Elliot.

I really love Alfred, but we already have a Frederick, nn Freddie (he did actually suggest this morning that we should call the baby Freddie so that there would be 2 of him. Either that or 'Toilet' Hmm )

Idris is really growing on me but DH thinks it is too unusual for a first name.

Maybe we'll have to wait and see when it arrives - it could still be a girl Grin

What about Miles or Marcus or Piers?

Freddie and Miles sound realy nice together.

Not sure about Miles, but I do like Marcus Smile

:) I think something with an ending (or potential ending) that is different from Y or ie would be nice so you don't end up with:

Freddie and Tommy
Freddie and Billy
Freddie and Eddie (this one doesn't really work I don't think)

That wouldn't be a bad thing, but it's nice just to have something a bit different.

That's a good point soontobeslendergirl, I have thought before that two '-ie' names can sound a bit like a cbeebies programme or a poncey clothing brand (particularly Freddie and Eddie, you're right, that definitely doesn't work!).

Maybe I will try writing some of these combinations down rather than having them all in my head, and will start to find something that works.

Thanks all Smile
