What are your thoughts on Alasdair, Francis, Rowan or Ronan..... Please help us make our shortlist shorter!

Love Rowan of that list. We have a v similar Alister on our short list - Francis, not so keen. Ronan... Ok...

Love Rowan and alisdair. Ronan is ok. I really don't like Francis - very 'wet' to me.

Love Alasdair. Not keen on the others.

Alisdair and Rowan my favourites. Ronan OK.
Francis not so sure.

All popular 1970 names in my opinion.

I dislike the name Francis - went to school with one who stood out for all the wrong reasons, a very wet character. Worked with another who hated his name and called himself Frank, a popular guy and the name Frank grew on me.

Also went to school with a Ronan, a nondescript guy. Easily forgotten.

Rowan reminds me of Atkinson. Not sure if that's a particularly good association though I am a fan.

I prefer Alexander.

Not keen on Francis at all, mainly because I dislike the nn Frank.

I like Ronan & Rowan.

I quite like Alasdair although I think I prefer the spelling Alastair.

The only one I'm not a fan of is Ronan.

Particulary like Alasdair, which is the gaelic version of Alexander.

I love Francis/Frank/Frankie.

I like Alasdair but really prefer the Alastair spelling by a long way.

Alasdair with a "d" is very wet according to my OH. Consequently my son's middle name is Alastair but we also have the spelling Alister in the family which is nice too.

I used to really like Rowan but i've gone off it recently. They should really be a red head and it's being used more and more for girls which would put me off.

Francis and Ronan are ok.

Like Rowan. Not keen on Francis, but I do like Frank. Alasdair would subject child to lifetime of spelling it for people (I have an unspellable, unpronounceable name and it's a massive pain). Sorry, don't like Ronan.

How about Lowan? Have one at work, unusual but similar to Rowan. I like Rowan better for a girl

Don't like any of them sorry. Frankie is a pretty cool nn if you're going to choose Francis.

The only one I like is Rowan, it's lovely.

Ronan does nothing for me I'm afraid, and both Alasdair and Francis are rather chinless.

I think Rowan is very popular and like Darren is to the 1970's, Rowan will be to this decade. Nothing wrong with it, but it will be everywhere and seem very dated.
