As the title asks really, are there any alternative full names to Christopher?

Christian

Floggingmolly · 13/03/2014 20:57

Kit is short for Christopher...

TwoLeftSocks · 13/03/2014 20:59

Kit's been short for Christopher for quite some time - see Kit Marlowe, mates with Shakespere.

Never heard it with any other names.

Floggingmolly · 13/03/2014 21:00

Oh sorry, misread the question.

Bowlersarm · 13/03/2014 21:03

We pondered it as short for Christian but decided it was a step too far.

In a Dick Francis book he has the hero who is Kit short for Christmas!

PreciousPeach · 13/03/2014 21:31

Kester

Love love love Kit and if it was me it would be Kit on the birth cert! Smile

Leeds2 · 13/03/2014 21:40

Christopher.

I do know a Kit whose name is Kit on his birth certificate, so not short for anything.

Ludways · 13/03/2014 21:42

I know a Christian who gets Kit.

SS3J · 14/03/2014 17:47

Kitson?

Innogen · 14/03/2014 17:48

DP is Kit short for Christopher

13loki · 15/03/2014 07:01

I taught a Kitto. I think it's Cornish. Everyone calledhim Kit.

Jaynebxl · 15/03/2014 07:12

Kitchen!

JabberJabberJay · 15/03/2014 07:13

Kit used to be a very common nickname for Christopher. Not used so much now but I really like it.

LePetitPont · 15/03/2014 08:29

Thinking phonetically, you could go with either Christopher or Christian. Kit is ace, especially in the form of the lovely chap who plays John Snow in Game of Thrones!

Kit Carson real name was Christopher

Kitten

Bluelavenders · 26/03/2025 09:16

Kitty

Bluelavenders · 26/03/2025 09:16

Sorry meant Kitto

RebeccaRebekah · 26/03/2025 14:49

I was also going to say Kester. A lovely name.

Bluelavenders · 26/03/2025 15:32

None of these are intuitive nicknames, apart from Kit for Kitto.

I guess any name starting with K, C or Q could therefore shorten to Kit?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 26/03/2025 15:36

The one I knew was Kester.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 26/03/2025 21:47

I heard of someone naming a little boy Kitson just because they wanted him to be known as Kit. (Kitson happens to be a surname with some history in the area we live in, landowners and local dignatories etc.) I wouldn't have done that myself but it's a possibility.

Kitchener?

But really I think your best bet is either Christopher or just plain Kit. Anything else will just confuse people.
