Middle names for Naomi and Leon, we're stuck!

Hello,

Mine and DH's baby is due in a couple of weeks; we haven't found out the gender so have a name for both. We're struggling with middle names though, so any help would be appreciated.

There are a few bits of criteria:
Girl's name not to end in -ie/y or -een sounds (-ine or -in/yn is fine)
Boy's name not to start or end with -n
Main vowel sound in either name can't be 'ee'
Both names to begin with a consonant

Our surname is single-syllable, and rhymes with 'keen'.

Many thanks in advance!

Thank you all for your suggestions, I will go through these with DH. I agree that 2+ syllable names work better.

If anyone has any further ideas keep 'em coming!

I always think middle names are the chance to honour or represent something. What about a family name or something you're really interested in or someone you admire.

Just for an example, off the top of my head say you admire Florence Nightingale or love reading Proust (I know these are ridiculous examples).

Naomi Florence
Leon Marcel

I know a Naomi Karen.

NewtRipley · 07/03/2014 20:07

I agree with Mama

NewtRipley · 07/03/2014 20:08

I think that, unless you are going to say the second name, how it looks or sounds is less important than what it means to you

CyberMuddle · 07/03/2014 20:39

We have looked at family names, but either they don't work with the first name, have been used recently by another family member, or one/both of us just doesn't really like the name!

As for names that reflect our interests, we have been looking into it, but nothing has clicked yet. DH is quite into cosmology, I love art and history, and we both love flowers and nature, so you'd think we'd have a wealth of options! We will keep looking, but it's always good to see what other people come up with.

Also, I like the idea of having the kind of middle name that DC can use instead of the first name if he/she chooses, rather than it just being a 'filler' name.

And it does feel important to me that the whole name flows when said out loud. I know it won't be very often, and maybe I'm just odd, but still...

I had a quick google of the things you mentioned. Obviously its all subjective, I don't know what flowers/history/art you like but I came up with these so far:

Naomi Violet
Naomi Celeste
Naomi Coral
Naomi Flora
Naomi Astrid
Naomi Willow
Naomi Ferne
Naomi Camelia
Naomi Iris
Naomi Fleur

Leon Ember
Leon Sage
Leon Raphael
Leon Jasper
Leon George

I've bolded my favourites so far.

Queenofthehill · 08/03/2014 02:06

My Leon is a Leon David. I (obviously) like it!

CyberMuddle · 08/03/2014 11:44

I LOVE Naomi Celeste! That's definitely on the list. Thank you mamapain!

For some reason I find boys' names so much harder; I'm trying to think of exhibitions I've been to and artists I admire...
